You should be pleased as punch that a Cannibal Holocaust review is coming down the pipe.

As per pleas to pick a more controversial flick, James will review Cannibal Holocaust in mid Feb.

Woohoo!

Although because of its reputation, he may take a more analytical view of it.

Whatever the view, should be a fun one!

While this would not have been my pick, I like that you chose a really controversial film. I haven't seen the film, but I imagine that the notoriety surrounding the film comes close to SALO.

Actually you're mistaken. The director of Cannibal Holocaust was arrested on murder charges until he produced the actors of the film to show they were, in fact, still alive. Salo can't say that

So I just watched Cannibal Holocaust for the first time today. That should make for a hell of a review.

Agree or disagree with the following statement:

The first half is crappy and shameful (or shameless) exploitation, the second half is an intriguing commentary on and criticism of crappy and shameful (or shameless) exploitation movies

In general, yes, I think I would agree with that. Whether or not you can get away with having both of those in the same film is something I'm still mulling over. The film is incredibly problematic, but also strangely compelling.

Post Re: We Have a Winner(s)
My plans for reviewing the winners' films have been pushed back a little by the stomach flu and the (unexpected) need to review THE HELP. I'm now looking at a date around Feb. 10 for DON'T LOOK NOW and Feb. 24 for CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. Pencil those dates in because they are subject to change. Obviously, though, I want to get them out of the way before the Oscars.

My main problem is that I can't seem to stay healthy this winter. I guess that's because everything my son gets, I get, and he's sick a lot. Since December 1, I have experienced: three colds (all with fevers) - with a fourth now underway, one sinus infection, pink eye, and the worst stomach virus I have ever gotten. I think the last time I was that sick was in 1984 when I was 17 years old.

The purpose of this message is to reassure everyone that I'm not reneging on my obligation. The reviews are coming. Plus: whoever beats me in the "Beat Berardinelli" Oscar contest (which will officially be announced within two weeks) will have a choice of either winning a Blu-Ray (or DVD) of their choice (as long as it can be purchased from Amazon for <$50) or reviewing a movie of their choice. I'm sure there's more than one potential winner out there who would love for me to review SALO.

After the stomach flu, that would be a piece of cake. Take my word for it. I'd rather watch FREDDY GOT FINGERED a second time. Even a third. I'd have to think about a fourth.
