My name was simply the username for one of my old email accounts. Basically, it was the first letter of my first name (Olaoluwa) and the first six letters of my last (Afolayan); nothing too special here.

And it makes you sound like a lovable oaf!

Boy, who you callin' an oaf?

Wow, there are some great stories here. Mine is much less interesting. Either way, awesome thread idea, Rafael.

"Ed" represents, as you might have imagined, the start of my first name. This is where things get tricky. It's not "metal-head", but "metal_head". I use underscores to separate the 3 components. "Metal" is just an abbreviation for Metallica who I love and used to worship (Lars is not a particularly interesting deity though). The "head" part is actually my high school nickname. I suppose the object that houses my brain is slightly bigger than average. So it goes. Anyway, I made the ed_metal_head email address in high school (more than a decade ago now, wow!) and thought it was really creative. Never thought of anything better so I continue to use it.

My name is just a word I like: Shade. I have a bit of a word fetish -- I have a strong attachment and feeling for the way words look and sound, and there are many words I love and many I hate and many in between. I like the word shade. That's it. It's not a nickname or anything like that.

The shade is cool and Shade is cool. I also like certain words. I think QT has that fetish too. Certain words have a kind of musicality to them and I think he recognises that. I really like names too. Sport (especially European football) is great for names. Where else can you find a name like Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink?

Christopher is my real first name, but I've been going by Pedro for almost ten years now. It was a name given to me in seventh grade Spanish class that stuck more than I ever hoped for. It's weird to hear people refer to me by my real name, though in filmmaking credits I'll use "Pedro Christopher Parodi" or "PEDRO."

That's a great anecdote. Pedro Almodovar should have opted for PEDRO rather than ALMODOVAR. His loss is your gain.

Was at one time amongst the top-ten rifle shooters in the US. It was my standing position -termed "Off-Hand"- scores that kept me at the tops of most events. I tried to use that spelling once as a log-in at another site and it had been taken so I change "off" to "awf" and it has stuck w/ me through a lot of web forums.
It works well when I make awf hand comments.

Note to self: Never piss off Awf hand

I know! I practically had a vision of him furiously peddling his bicycle, rifle in hand. Hmmm...this would make for a killer movie plot. PEDRO?

It's the first three letters of my last name. Then the numbers...

Back in high school pagers were really popular. We came up with a kind of pager code where each number or a combination of numbers represented a letter of the alphabet. 2 = A, 8 = B, 0 = C and so on. We were basically texting each other with our pager codes. So I could send something like...

401112 - 177074312 - 5110145 - 00014 - 117 - 4377

Anyways, in order to know who the hell was paging you, you assigned yourself a number. My wife was 13 and I was 12. How fucking cute...

So there you go...ram1312.

Dude, that's a great story and really sweet too. Can't believe you're shattering my pipe layer image though. *Sniffs*

Casual - A casual movie goer. I don't get involved in the film school side of discussions on this board. I'm just a guy who enjoys movies for entertainment, and for some reason also enjoy reading about them.

Dad - My favorite role in life. I love the time I spend with my son and daughter more than anything else. The casual part also applies directly - as an old dad (I'm 49 and my kids are 8 and 5) much of my edge is gone and the kids really have to work at it to annoy me.

I refuse to let him shatter mine. When I envision pipe layers, I envision Ram and only Ram.

There's no point in even posting about my screen name on RV since it is exactly my name.

Nowadays, I've started using my real name on the internet for some reason. In games, I mostly use BlazingInferno which sounded like a cool screen name for a gamer at the time I made it up with visions of infernos blazing and all that. Now, I feel it mostly fails to meet character limits that some games pose on me and I am too lazy to come up with any reasonable alternative.

My name comes from the Norse myth surrounding the end (and subsequent rebirth) of the world, not from the video game. The last 2 digits are there because Ragnarok is a seemingly popular handle on websites. That's it.

Sexual Chocolate is the name of the R&B band in Coming To America.

Oh, back when Eddie Murphy was funny...

Well, I was born in '82... and "Neco" is just the nickname everyone has been calling me since I was born. There's actually a story behind it... my older sisters used to watch this Brazilian soap opera, where the "stud" character was named Neco. They wanted me to grow up to be like him, so they started calling me that.

Thing is, there's also a brand of soap back home with the same name, so I always have to explain to people that it has nothing to do with the damn soap.

Great band. Especially their clever Ray Bradbury-themed epic "Something Dick-ed This Way Comes."

Isn't that the name of the group in the porno remake of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

I imply that there's a porno remake of a cherished children's show and THAT'S your response?

*Laughs a lot* I was thinking of "Alone in the Dark" and it seemed there might be a porno remake

I couldn't tell you why I came up with this combination of characters myself. But it's stuck, and if you see me somewhere else, yes, it's probably me, and yes, I am into that stuff.

Right, I took this as an invitation to google you and see you breaking the law with horrible timing errors. Any Opera user is cool in my book though.
