I saw the trailer before you warned us and yes, they did divulge some important plot points, but still the movie looks good. I'll still see it.

It's probably a good thing the twist is practically given away in the trailers, that way people can save themselves 10 bucks.

Is the big 'disappointment' the same as that of 'Haunting in Connecticut'? That wasn't really disappointing, just... well you saw 'Magnolia' right?

'The Departed' wins the prize for "What the fuck just happened?" type of ending. Was nearly enjoying it too :P

Holy fuck..

If this movie was a star wars flick it would be called "Star wars II: Vader = lukes dad!!"

Thats the most spoiler filled trailer ive seen bar the one for "The last dragon" (which is a mini movie reveling ALL the plot points)

I get what your saying about the ending. They don't really do a good job setting up what happens in the climax. I mean there are certain characters and scenes that make it that it makes sense as to what happens. But they should have done a better job of building up to it. Still, I liked it. My main problem is the first act of the movie which thanks to the trailer is rendered pointless since we obviously know where this is heading. What a bone headed move by the studio to give that twist away.

And while I know you always include the movie's trailer in your reviews, I still found it kind of ironic that you warn people against watching the trailer and yet have it at after the review. It kind of made me chuckle a little.

I watched the trailer on your page before reading your review. I feel like I've seen the movie and won't bother with it now.

Too late. I already saw the trailer (actually, I heard it on the radio). I hate it when that happens.

Apparently, Jim Sheridan, Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, and Rachel Weisz were all extremely unhappy with the final product which they claim was ruined by the studio in the editing room. (Re-shoots were also required when a test screening went badly.)

[Reveal] Spoiler:
My understanding of the original ending is that it did what I expected it to do. It's dark, unhappy, and the kind of thing that will turn off people who want a happy ending. It was also in keeping with the rest of the film. When I commented that it seemed like the script was hijacked near the end, it appears I wasn't far off.

Sheridan tried to get his name taken off but the DGA wouldn't allow Alan Smithee to take over on this one. However, he and the actors refused to do any publicity for the film, which is why a movie with such significant stars was essentially dumped into theaters.

If Sheridan's cut gets released on DVD, I'd be interested in seeing it. Otherwise, this is not a film I will revisit.

[Reveal] Spoiler:
Does this mean then that Elias Koteas was added later on? I just find it hard to believe that an actor of talent would be in this movie if it's just that one scene in the train. If this did have that darker ending, did Koteas play another part in the movie or was he really that wasted or was he a later addition to make the movie more mainstream?

Koteas was not in the movie until the re-shoots.
