Post Re: Pedro's Official 2010 Oscar Predictions
Come later this morning I expect the Academy to present more or less the same list. Only Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber (for (500) Days of Summer) seem a little out of place to me.

Post Re: Pedro's Official 2010 Oscar Predictions
There's gotta be some surprises in the main categories a la Tommy Lee Jones for Best Actor in 2006 and Laura Linney for Best Actress in 2007, I think or even Mike Leigh for best Director in 2004.

So this year, I think it's possible one (or more) of the following can happen:

1. Lee Daniels is replaced by Clint Eastwood in the Best Director category. This has a high chance of happening right now.
2. Michael Stuhlbarg gets a best actor nomination (replacing Jeremy Renner or even Morgan Freeman, but if Clint Eastwood's in, then Freeman's in). The Academy has always liked the actors in a Coens brothers movie. It's possible.
3. The BEst actress list is safe, as far as I can tell. Maybe an Emily Blunt replacing Helen Mirren. Highly unlikely though.
4. I'm still not sure about Julianne Moore in the best supporting actress category. But if she does get nominated, I think she's going to win.
5. I completely agree with you that another surprise is Anthony Mackie replacing Stanley Tucci in the best supporting actor category. I think this is highly likely. Hell, even Alfred Molina has a great chance of ending up on the list.

Frankly, I don't expect District 9 to get more than 3 - 4 nominations. Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Up In The Air will get more than 5 nominations, but none will cross more than 10. And something about (500) Days Of Summer...I think it'll be featured on more than 1 nomination list (best actor? I wish...)

Anyhow, this is all an opinion..and it's just 28 minutes to go before the list is announced.
