Jean Luc Godard's 1967 film about a prostitute in a high rise on the outskirts of Paris.
This is not a casual viewing as the narrative structure is abstract and it would be easy to point a criticism of pretentiousness.
I watched it once and was left scratching my head at another impenetrable Godard movie that many smart people are raving about. So I rewatched with the Criterion commentary and suddenly everything snapped into focus.
if you want to get into Godard I would not recommend this film. Start with Breathless and then go on to Vivre sa Vie. These are his first two films.
If you need more, check out Alphaville. After that it gets more challenging.
I'm on a Godard journey and will try and see 8-10 of his movies over the next 3 months as I want to truly understand this great director. I started out very unconvinced and am slowly being won over. That said, it's more of an intellectual rather than an emotionally involving film.
