 Re: Poll #11: Stanley Kubrick
Quite possibly the most versatile director of all time. He was listless, positively so. My vote goes to Clockwork, same as a few others, but I tip my hat to both the technicolor spectacular that is Spartacus and 2001 -- they're all perfect films, in my book.

 Re: Poll #11: Stanley Kubrick
The only Kubrick movie I really like is Full Metal Jacket. I've seen the others and understand how many appreciate the artistry, but his style just doesn't move me.

2001. It's so intrinsic to the film medium that I can't imagine it succeeding in any other medium. Even though it did.
It boggles the mind, really.

I don't think I voted for it but I love Barry Lyndon. I saw it for the first time a few years ago and was riveted. There were a couple of scenes I found particularly mesmerizing, including the duel scene with Lord Bullington and the scene where he met Lady Lyndon. Some find it dull and tedious. Quite the opposite for me.

I am not exactly sure how to choose between a bunch of his movies, but I am surprised at the number of people here that give any credence to Eyes Wide Shut.

Dr. Strangelove all the way followed closely by Clockwork Orange.

Strangelove wins hands down followed by Paths of Glory and The Killing.
This probably belongs in the Cinematic Heresy thread, but I've given 2001 a try on three separate occasions and I'm just not getting it. It's a chore to watch. I've watched Antonioni and Tarkovsky films, so it's not just the pacing or anything like that. It's an undisputed classic who's merits elude me, but I wasn't alive when it was first released either, so maybe I'm missing something here.

Dammit, Craig, you've gone and put my beloved Clockwork Orange in the #3 spot. If 2001 doesn't work for you after 3 tries then it's probably just not going to work. However, I do think you should give it another shot if it ever plays in a theatre close to you. Seeing it on a big screen with a good sound system might make all the difference.
