 Re: And the winner is...
Personally I would love to see how James reacts to 'Grave Of The Fireflies' (this title taking precedent), his impressions of 'Night And Fog' (although that WOULD actually be torture), his honest opinions on Altman's 'McCabe & Mrs. Miller', his assessment of 'Dead Ringers', and his elaborated review of either 'Millers Crossing' or 'Blood Simple', both of which he has displayed summary appraisals for.
P.S. - I love most of Pedro's picks ('Distant' is a choice to fall in love with), but I would rather watch paint dry in HD rather than read a review of 'Awakenings' from any critic other than maybe Armond White. It is bland and flavorless, both as a film and as a year-end choice.

Yeah, I'd thought about that as well. Films I rate **** out of **** that haven't been reviewed include A Hard Day's Night, Mary Poppins, 12 Angry Men, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

 Re: And the winner is...
That's exactly what I am thinking. Like I said before though, I want you to feel strongly for it as well. Strong enough to place it in your Top 100...or at least a 4 star review. This is tough. I don't want to bore you or torture you Mr. B.

 Re: And the winner is...
Excellent suggestions guys...
I'm personally drawn to some that Pedro and Flow have thrown out.
And I still have the one in my mind that no one has mentioned yet.

This isn't tough, you just have that whiny conscience making it tough.

Don't be mad that I'm picking a Seagal movie Pat.
But you're right...it does whine a lot.

Salo is worth watching. To some it's a masterpiece. Given what people are used to nowadays it's not all that shocking. Very bizarre. It's also interesting to note that Pasolini was murdered for making this film. Plus it's a Criterion release.

 Re: And the winner is...
No. It's legit. But the question is whether this is really what you want to "spend" your win on. If it was me, I'd find something that I feel strongly about one way or the other and get a review for that.
By the way, if you pick something awful in the hopes of getting a humorous review, you may be wasting your pick. My mood when I write reviews of bad movies impacts how funny it is. If I'm not in a good mood, it may turn out to be nasty and scathing.[/quote]
A nasty scathing review is almost as good as a humorous review.

 Re: And the winner is...
I also came up with a few I might impose upon James if given the opportunity:
The underrated, devastating, and neglected (he didn't even mention it in his review of Babenco's "Kiss Of The Spider Woman") 1981 neo-realist drama "Pixote".
The brilliant, oft-noted (referenced by James in his review of Boorman's subsequent feature, "The General") and most certainly iconic 1972 film, "Deliverance".
The hypnotic and thoroughly brilliant "Aguirre, The Wrath Of God".
Fot me, my choice might have actually been the 1943 film "Day Of Wrath". It's difficult to imagien James disliking that film, especially in terms of it's penetrating gloom. In a similar vein, it would be interesting to see what he thought of the dark period thriller "The Name Of The Rose", which has a similar tone (albeit it is a much more graphic film) to Dreyer's work.

 Re: And the winner is...
I have this feeling...like I have this immense responsibility to find a decent film for Mr. B to review.
It's not about this want to have him suffer on a film or to review some movie that I have some nostaligia over. There are quite a few films that I would love to have him review...
...but I want Mr. B to get something out of watching this film...not just for me, but for him.
I am making way too much out of this win...way, way too much.

 Re: And the winner is...
Yeah no kidding, why not just pick a movie you love that James hasn't yet reviewed?

I would love it if you did find your non-crappy film and JB destroys it....then you'll think how stupid your agonizing decision-making process was.

 Re: And the winner is...
Well, whatever your choice is, Private Message me the title and then I'll pass it along to James. I'd rather people not know the film until it's release date has been confirmed. Alos, the suspense would be much more satisfying for me.
P.S. - Even if I chastise you for the choice (which, frankly, if you pick 'Awakenings' I will), I will nevertheless uphold your decision in a court of film law.

 Re: And the winner is...
I think Awakenings is a very good film; I'll like his choice if that's his film.

 Re: And the winner is...
If I had won, I would have probably picked 12 Angry Men (my top movie that James has not reviewed),or The Mystery [Enigma] of Kaspar Hauser (my personal favorite Herzog film). Tough choice, though. I don't really envy you.

 Re: And the winner is...
I will say this... IMO, BLOOD SIMPLE is the best Coen Brothers movie.

 Re: And the winner is...
That's a little depressing given that they've only made like fifty movies since then. I haven't seen Blood Simple, though, so I can't say whether or not James is right. However, No Country is in my top ten, so I'd be hard pressed to find a better film by them.
