Last week, an unfortunate setback rendered one of our three choices - the 1930 Milestone "All Quite On The Western Front" - a memory. Well, here it is revisited. I could simply graft your scores onto your posts via edit for you, but I think I'll give to you the benefit of re-voting (because I know the last week was consumed with second-guessing by all of you - I just know it). We also have the Clooney/Reitman airline delight "Up In The Air", which could also see a favorable review in light of James' wander-love for "Juno" and recent George Clooney flicks (which have reaped incredible artistic and critical dividends), and "Everybody's Fine", the only drama creepy enough to make me imagine who Robert DeNiro would have to have sex with to spawn Sam Rockwell (although, sadly, this is not the point on the motion picture). All in all, it looks to be a decent week for James (what, with the baby and the good movies and the ten pounds he won't be gaining when he finds out this Thursday isn't Thanksgiving Part Deux - that's just a Stergos-lie!).



And yes, I skipped "Brothers", which has a pretty easy rating. Hmm, sorry

Up In The Air-***1/2 This should be a gimme based on the Toronto review

Everybody's Fine-**1/2 A seemingly generic comedy-drama featuring the new and not-so-improved Robert DeNiro that has reared its ugly head throughout the decade. Should be decent enough for at least a marginal recommendation though.

All Quiet- ***1/2 Looks like a powerful film whose anti-war sentiments may be more resonant now that even back when it was first released

Nah, oafolay, James is reviewing 'All Quiet On The Western Front', not 'Wooden Crosses' (if you think 'All Quiet' is bleak, 'Crosses' will have you convulsing in horror). Nevertheless, it's hard to see James being very hard on such a well-respected, and more importantly, pragmatically inclined war film.

It's not just "oh let's risk it". I don't think only one movie will make it to 4 stars this year and I think "Up In The Air" will be the second one. (Or "The Lovely Bones". Or both.)

Welcome back. I too get the feeling that this is a probable 4 star film. I'm not gonna waste a guess on it though

You guys didn't read James review of this at the Toronto film fest did you? Now, I'll agree that his review was laudatory but it certainly doesn't read like a 4-star review. Not to me at least; I feel pretty confident in my ***1/2 guess for this one.
