Yeah, if you have any idea who James is, you won't have any trouble picking it. I might just skip it, though I'll never understand why people enjoy that man's work. 'The Informer' tells more of IRA politics than his entire oeuvre manages to even whisper.

Re: How Much Do You Like Prizes? (Week 36)
It definitely HAS to be Brothers. Brothers is the only one on the list that looks like it could be great, although I do think Everybody's Fine looks good. But it doesn't look great.
It has a good director, a great cast. Yeah, it definitely has to be Brothers.
Clearly it's not Twilight: New Moon. And it's not gonna be The Blind Side either. As much as I love De Niro and Rockwell and Barrymore and Beckinsale, I really don't see that being anything more than very good. Old Dogs and Youth in Revolt both look extremely lame.
The only other movie I could see it being besides Brothers is Me and Orson Welles. I think it looks pretty good though I can't see a movie starring Zach Efron actually being great. But it IS directed by Richard Linklater so I suppose it's very possible that Linklater was actually able to get a really good performance out of him.
But I'm still putting my money on Brothers.

Yeah Everybody's Fine isn't too likely a choice either, since James has madei t clear that he's not big on road movies.

That would be my guess as well. Although it does seem like yet another anti-war film but perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe character development and heartfelt emotion could trump politics this time. At any rate, that will be my pick; on the other hand, Me and Orson Wells could catch me unawares and Efron could suddenly become an Oscar-lock....

Hmm, it seems clearly to be between Me and Orson Welles and Brothers. Both have directors whose work Mr. Berardinelli has liked in the past (Richard Linklater, Jim Sheridan), but I'd have to give the edge to Me and Orson Welles because of the passion Mr. Berardinelli has shown for some of Linklater's previous films (especially Before Sunrise).

Re: How Much Do You Like Prizes? (Week 36)
Interesting, I just read the last few posts that are guessing Brothers. And I would agree that it sounds like the kind of movie that would make Top Ten lists more than Me and Orson Welles. But for Mr. Berardinelli to say that to those who know him it would not be a hard guess, I've got to assume the answer relates to his opinion of the directors. As far as I can tell, he's only rated one of Sheridan's movies as 3.5 stars or higher (In the Name of the Father), while three of Linklater's achieved that distinction (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Waking Life), with Before Sunrise making his Top 100 list. So I think clearly Mr. Berardinelli is a bigger fan of Linklater than Sheridan, and that's what I've got to assume he meant by his hint.

The fact that the subject matter is about Orson Welles could tips the scales strongly in that film's direction as well come to think of it...

James gave Me and Orson Welles just 3 stars, so that means it's GOT to be Brothers.

Re: How Much Do You Like Prizes? (Week 36)
Yep, it has to be Brothers. How could I go so wrong?!? Logically, I still think the evidence would have suggested Me and Orson Welles. The genre of neither movie strikes me as one that would stand out to Mr. Berardinelli, and I wouldn't have thought the cast of Brothers was obviously much better than that of Me and Orson Welles to him. (Mr Berardinelli hasn't been as positive about some of Gyllenhaal's and Maguire's recent work like Rendition and The Good German as he has their earlier material, and he has always had mixed feelings about Natalie Portman). In my mind, the issue of which movie he was more likely to strongly recommend had to come down to the directors, and--as I explained in my earlier postings--it appears that Mr. Berardinelli is clearly a bigger fan of Richard Linklater than Jim Sheridan (though he certainly likes Sheridan). I'd be very curious to know why he thought predicting the movie that would make his Top Ten list would not be a hard guess to those who know him. Of course, I've only won this competition once all year, so what do I know?

Look, you guys just created a noobula. The intial film 'Brothers' from Denmark was critically lauded. I'm guessing (although without benefit of competition reward) it's a surefire 3.5. And James enjoys Sheridan - just read that 'In The Name Of The Father' review...
