Post if going away for 6 mos. -- what 10 dvd's would you take
This topic comes compliments of a response from Rob on the Cinematic Journey thread....so what movies would you choose? Keep in mind styles, genres and re-watchability as you will only have these 10 to watch over and over for half a year.

Patrick,
Very eclectic choices here which I suppose is good considering you will need some variety during those 6 months. I noticed you placed The Rise and Fall of ECW on here. Did you happen to read the book? Very interesting. I had the opportunity to meet several of the key players when it all was coming together here in Philly and it was just a great, great time for that kind of sports entertainment. Also, just curious...no comedies huh? I'm working on my 10 and will have them up soon.

Who did you meet? And no I haven't read the books,(there's two of them, one WWE-sanctioned and the non-WWE sanctioned) but I kinda want to.

And I consider The Marine a comedy, no amount of explosions is going to change my mind...they would just make me laugh more.

Good point about the Marine. Haha. I met Paul E., Taz, Tommy Dreamer, Cactus Jack, Kevin Sullivan, and quite a few others thanks to Stevie Richards who used to shop at a store I worked at and struck up a friendship with a co worker of mine. Good front row seats in those beginning times was a blast.

So I take it you never met the newer ECW guys like The Impact Players, Mike Awesome, Raven, Rhino or Rob Van Damme?

10 DVDs huh? I am going to go with 10 movies or tv sets:

Blade Runner
Heat
Cowboy Bebop
The Office (BBC)
Futurama Season 2
Star Wars IV
Star Wars V
Star Wars VI
Swingers
Ghost in the Shell

When you're picking a desert island type of list or anything like that, I feel like you gotta go with the sort of worlds that you just want to spend some time in--not necessarily movies whose plots are interesting--because well, that will get old after a while. You want movies that you can enjoy experiencing no matter how many times you see them.

I like this post better than the "dvds for the rest of your life" posts... I am also inferring that ANY dvd goes which means TV and Concert dvds can be included:

1. The Godfather
2. Stop Making Sense
3. Disc 1 of Dave Matthews, Live at Central Park
4. Dumb and Dumber
5. Caddyshack
6. a random porn dvd that I made on my computer.... hey, you have to think of everything!!
7. Die Hard
8. Jaws
9. Forrest Gump
10. Raiders of the Lost Ark

Skadoosh!!! I think I have just included everything a man might need in 10 DVDs

Post Re: if going away for 6 mos. -- what 10 dvd's would you take
Putney Swope
Cry Uncle
Andrey Rublyov
The Sacrifice
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Vertigo
The Last Emperor
The Aviator
Berlin Alexanderplatz
Red Beard

I'm sure as hell not taking 10 movies I've already seen -- I can wait 6 months to see anything for a second or third time. The above 10 are movies that I've never seen, have an intention to see one day, and would gladly watch over a period of 6 months. If none of them are rewatchable then think of all the free time.

I like Red Beard, but by the time you've finished watching it, your six months are more or less over.

Anyway, my list is as follows:

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. Annie Hall
4. Pulp Fiction
5. LotR trilogy
6. Nosferatu
7. The Wizard of Oz
8. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
9. This Is Spinal Tap
10. Robin Hood: Men in Tights

Patton
The African Queen
Master and Commander

That kind of evades the whole, these are all you have for 6 months thing, doesn't it?
Does that mean that you'd get sick of these movies and wish you'd brought something else right away?

I see your point. I just mean that my favorite movies change almost daily, and my favorite 10 at any given time probably draw from a pool of 50 or so flicks.

So, I don't know if I'd actually get sick of these right away, but I'd almost certainly think "Geez, I should have brought 'Rear Window' or 'Unforgiven' (or whatever) instead."

What can I say, I'm old and feeble-minded . . .

I think the point was what movies can you watch over and over again, not your favorites.

You don't watch your favorites over and over?

I hate it when I have to re-evaluate my entire life because of one post :)
