Post Top 10 Films Of the 80s
After seeing that list for the 70s (which yes was the greatest decade in cinematic history) I go to thinking about the following one. The 80s in some ways gets a bad rap because it's not as good as the decade that preceded it or the one that followed. But in its own way, it gave us some pretty good to great films as well. It wasn't as much a period of sustained accomplishment as its predecessor or the next decade. In some ways, it was like the 2000s.

Top 10 Of the 80s (in no particular order)

Blue Velvet
Drugstore Cowboy
Aliens
Raising Arizona
Raging Bull
Platoon
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Bull Durham
The Terminator
Do The Right Thing
Bonuses: Blade Runner and Ghostbusters

Runners Up:

Wall Street
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
The Breakfast Club
48 Hrs
The Blues Brothers
An American Werewolf In London
Ran

Post Re: Top 10 Films Of the 80s
Now that I’ve stood up for the 1980ies in a recent discussion in the “Last Movie You Watched thread, I feel obliged to post a list of ten great movies released between 1980 and 1989 (according to imdb) as well:

1 Once upon a Time in America
2 Akira
3 Brazil
4 Raging Bull
5 Das Boot
6 Fitzcarraldo
7 Zelig
8 The Shining
9 The Empire Strikes Back
10 Quest for Fire

The top ten are randomly plucked from a pool of personal favourites from the 1980oes including: Airplane!, Clash of the Titans, Escape from New York, Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Scarface, Trading Places, This is Spinal Tap, The Killing Fields, The Terminator, Ran, Labyrinth, Blue Velvet, The Mission, Au Revoir, les Enfants, Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, Full Metal Jacket, The Last Emperor, The Princess Bride, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbour Totoro, The Naked Gun, Crimes and Misdemeanours, Meet the Feebles.

Blade Runner – The Director’s Cut would have made the top ten, but wasn’t included, because it has been released in 1992. The original cut is “merely” very good.
