Post Directors You've Seen 10+ Films By
As some of you may know, I love making lists and then adding to them or striking things off. I have lists of countries and states, UNESCO sites, state capitols, airports, movies seen, Best Picture nominees, baseball parks attended, etc. My latest one is film directors that you've seen at least 10 films by. Somewhat surprisingly for me, I'm not actually doing very well. Here's what I've got:

    Alfred Hitchcock: 30
    Woody Allen: 27
    Steven Spielberg: 20
    Oliver Stone: 15
    Clint Eastwood: 14
    Brian DePalma: 14
    Martin Scorsese: 12
    Ridley Scott: 12
    Sidney Lumet: 11
    Steven Soderbergh: 11
    Coen Brothers: 11
    Mike Nichols: 10
    David Cronenberg: 10

So only 12 and no foreign directors for me, though Bergman's only one away. How many of these guys show up on your lists? Who do you have?

Woody Allen: 27
Alfred Hitchcock: 22
Steven Spielberg: 19
Coen Bros.: 13
Ridley Scott: 13
Clint Eastwood: 12
Martin Scorsese: 11
Billy Wilder: 10
Stanley Kubrick: 10
Tim Burton: 10
Robert Zemeckis: 10

I'm missing one or two from Kurosawa, Ford, Polanski, Huston, and Hawks.

I would just like to go on record in stating that I despise James Kunz for seeing 15 Oliver Stone movies and 14 Brian DePalma movies and not seeing at least 10 Coen Brothers movies.

Somebody got me the Oliver Stone box set! I'm innocent! Plus I went back and checked and apparently, without knowing it, I had seen 11 Coen brothers films. So thanks Pete

Begrudgingly adding Burton to my list as I've seen 10 of his. Less begrudgingly adding Zemeckis, as I've also seen 10 of his. Thankfully, I've only seen 8 Ron Howard movies.

I kind of suck at this list. I forgot somewhere around half of the guys Blonde Almond listed.

Wow you guys have gone to town on Bob Zemeckis. He's only made like 12 films.

To be fair, I saw the majority of them before the age of 16 and haven't seen any of his movies since Castaway. I think it's fair to say I've outgrown ol' BobZ.

Ol'BobZ has been outgrown by Nu'BobZ. The difference between the two is that one of them makes movies and the other makes demo reels for sophisticated cartoon technology.

Haha, Nu'BobZ. Nice.

Good point too. He sucks now.

I used this website as a reference: http://www.filmsite.org/directors.html

I'm hoping Ol'BobZ has a comeback of sorts this year with Flight, his first live-action film in 12 years. I'm still a big fan of his, even though I'd prefer to forget his last decade of work.

Good question Jimmy K. I gotta look into this. Bet you guys I don't have ten movies from any director.

Without doing the hard research, this is probably pretty close to how it breaks down for me.

Except for Tony Scott. I tend to avoid him.

Oddly, I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton, but I've seen so many of his movies.

Who directed Poltergeist?

A quick search yielded this.

Dick.

Coen Brothers - 12
Spielberg - 11

I'm proud of who has the highest directorial numbers in my viewing history, but extremely ashamed and embarrassed that other acclaimed directors don't have double digits. Thanks KunzieBear.

Don't blame me, blame your one-movie months :)

Sydney Lumet – 11
Coen Bros – 15
Steven Spielberg – 21
Alfred Hitchcock – 14
Woody Allen – 27
Rob Reiner – 11
David Cronenberg – 12
Oliver Stone - 14
Martin Scorsese – 20
David Lynch – 9 and the Twin Peaks t.v. series which I’m counting as a tenth.
Richard Linklater – 10
Clint Eastwood – 16
Steven Sodenbergh -12
Robert Zemekis – 10
Peter Weir – 10
Ridley Scott – 14
Tony Scott – 11
Tim Burton -12
Francis Ford Coppola – 11
Brian De Palma – 10
Ron Howard – 13
Richard Donner – 10

I've highlighted the Director's that I believe warrant seeing ten films from. I’m not at all proud of that list. There's no Kubrick, Ford, Amalvador, Huston, Kurosawa etc. Three or four directors I don’t care for much anymore and it seems to contain nearly all modern day film makers with no foreign language film directors. Perhaps if we broke the list down to eight films it would make me feel more rounded? :?

David Fincher sits on 9 films (which I'm guessing most of us have seen) and he will definately be in bold when he makes his tenth.
