Granted I've only seen 6 Van Sant movies and I hated Paranoid Park...but I hate it less than I hate his version of Psycho

Haven't even seen 5 Van Sant films, but if anything tops Good Will Hunting I would be very very pleased.

Hi there,

I've been a fan for a while and seen about 12.

I grouped them into four sections. Favorite, liked, average and dreadful. Also put JB's ratings on each that i could find.

Good Will Hunting (3.0)
Elephant (NA)
Milk (3.5)
Paranoid Park (3.0)
Drugstore Cowboy (NA) Hopefully this will be in the Eighties reviews!
My Own Private Idaho
To Die For (3.0)

Gerry (NA)
Psycho (1.5)

Last Days (NA)
Finding Forrester (3.0)

Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (NA)

Hope this is useful.

Rob

I've only ever heard horrible things about the Psycho remake. What did you like about it, Rob?

Oops there's an error here. I got the split in the wrong place but the films in the right order.
Psycho should have been in the average group.

That said, as an intellectual exercise i appreciated it but did not like it. I gave it 5 out of ten.
The issue was that due to the literal frame for frame copying of the original it feels like the original but it clearly is not
it is devoid of any suspense. My affection was probably driven by my love of the original.
There was a curious fascination in seeing a one off experiment that did not work
the original is one of my favorite films ever and I've seen it far too many times

I only ever saw GVS Psycho once. My guess is that a repeat might see it slide into the lower category
James was probably right at 1.5 stars or 4 out of ten

5. Drugstore Cowboy
4. Gerry
3. Milk
2. Elephant
1. Good Will Hunting

Van Sant's got an interesting filmography. Good Will Hunting's my favorite due to its unabashed simplicity and phenomenal screenplay, while Elephant's my second favorite for opposite reasons. It's slow, thought-provoking, and arguably very pretentious. Both are kind of cool.

1. "Good Will Hunting"
2. "Drugstore Cowboy"
3. "Elephant" (aka 'the NOT Columbine film' :geek: )
4. "To Die For"
5. "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues"
6. "Mala Noche"
7. "Gerry" 8. "Milk"
9. "My Own Private Idaho"
10. "Paranoid Park"

Haven't seen: "Psycho," "Finding Forrester," "Last Days" (aka 'the NOT Kurt Cobain film' :ugeek: ) [not really interested in any of these], "Restless" [though I will see this eventually].

Those are the ones I've seen. God help me, I love the long tracking shots used in Gerry and Elephant. I also realize why people may not like it; it does take a lot of patience to watch those two, to be sure.
