Se7en and Heat were both incredibly mediocre and unremarkable films, Braveheart wasn't all that great either, Apollo 13 should've been the winner that year.

In a way I knew that my personal pick for best picture of 2005 was way too edgy for Academy Award material (Sin City).

Ugh I hate Ron Howard. Not because he's actually a poor director, but because he's such a study in mediocrity

That is generally the name bestowed on directors of work like Da-Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, just because he wasn't trying to hide it in those films behind a mental illness or faux-Nixon's accent...
