Post Re: Movies You Own... With Darker Motives
I dunno- I mean, how many people would buy a film for one moment when you can find it on the Internet without having to spend even the low amount of money needed to purchase it?

For me and Body of Evidence, the rest of the movie makes me laugh.

I love Patrick's posts (the one above from the ill-begotten Zack and Miri Make a Porno thread) because they are possibly the most succinct, entertaining little bites of information and biography as you're likely to get. Plus, he's used the word 'normies' at least twice. Patrick: if you ever need help moving some furniture, let me know.

There's no good answer to Ragnarok73's question. But I'll try. When you face the likelihood of getting caught looking at a clip of Chloe Sevigny showing her admiration of Vincent Gallo's phallus you're better off purchasing the movie and feigning (read: lying) knowledge of any such scene. An isolated clip on a computer, with a history file to prove exactly whom I've been watching do whatever to whom, will get me a lecture to which I'll have no defense. Sure, you can clear a history file. But what happens when you're caught in the act of surfing Celebrity Movie Archive for stills of a topless Eliza Dushku? It gives me peace of mind to know that I can see her topless in the context of an evening's entertainment.

"My god! Eliza Dushku! And topless! In The Alphabet Killer! If I had known I wouldn't have purchased the movie!"

Patrick makes the point here: you want the icing with the mediocre cake. Or at least I do. Yes, I want Eliza Dushku topless. And, no, I don't particularly want to watch a bad movie to do it. What was my point again? Right... why purchase. You never know what kind of movie you'll get out of it and, as Patrick "If you loved porn even half as much as I do" Stergos knows, the stills on the internet are always so blurry. It's disappointing.

And you're welcome for the Eliza Dushku information to all those who didn't know.

But Celebrity Movie Archive has clear stills! They just have four per clip and I knew about Dushku in The Alphabet Killer, where were you 3 months ago.

But yeah, I'm kinda shock that Mark "insert witty nickname" Jefferies is also a lurker at CMA. This is kinda getting to real.

This thread might not have alot of posts.. but I'll be damned if I'm not proud (and by proud, I mean horrified) that it gets bumped so often.

You know, like Gong Li does in Miami Vice...

I gotta disagree here. First, if you google the websites where the porn and/or other nudie tidbits are, the sites you go to won't show up in your browser's history. Second: I don't see it as shameful to like looking at pictures of nude actresses, especially ones I find as hot as Eliza Dushku (who here wouldn't bang her in a country second given the chance?). I wouldn't flaunt it, but neither do I see a need to hide it as if it's somehow wrong.

This is my point exactly: I'm not going to spend my hard-earned money on a garbage film just for the moments that I can see Eliza naked. That's what the Internet is for.

Ah, but this is another advantage I see to watching films on the Internet- you can see what you're thinking of purchasing. It's like taking a test drive before deciding to buy a car. If you don't like it, you don't need to buy it. Granted, going to a theater to spend money on a film you haven't seen yet works on the same principle, but there are a couple of differences between this and buying DVD's of films you haven't seen yet. First, you can at least see the disaster playing on a large cinema screen. Second, you can also know that you won't have to live with the film if it turns out to be crap like you would if you had a copy of it on DVD. Finally, in the end, that's what critics like James are around for. ;)

I had nothing for an argument. The truth is that all purchases made solely for the nudity are done out of impulse. I've stopped doing this and, more or less, stopped purchasing movies altogether.

They vary, the stills. They're good enough to sate the curiosity of what Mischa Barton has to offer without having to sit through her performance. I can't tell you exactly what I was doing three months ago but it's safe to say I wasn't looking at Eliza Dushku topless.

Lurker? Infrequent visitor. But anything I can do to lend authenticity to CMA is my pleasure.

One particular case in point for me. I don't actually own the movie. Nor did I (thankfully) blow $7.50-8.50 to see it in the theater. But I did end up watching the movie Obsessed. The movie itself is a very bad Fatal Attraction knock-off. But it was worth watching just to look at Beyonce. It can be enjoyed in that regard if your TV has a mute button and you can just watch le lovely and not have to hear the horrendous dialogue.

As for ones that one owns with darker motives, I can think of one: I bought The Players Club when I saw it on sale for $5.00. It isn't a great movie. But as far as stripper movies go, it's better than the most commonly cited ones (Showgirls, Striptease).

Meh, I don't get why people obsess(heh) over Beyonce, she's an overrated singer and she's nowhere near as attractive as people say. So it's no surprise that she's a horrible actress. I only watched this film out of sheer boredom, it was so awful that I was actually wishing I was watching Glitter, Swept Away, or Spice world instead, Beyonce's performance was so awful it made the Spice girls, Madonna and Mariah Carey's performances look like Oscar contenders by comparison!

The one movie Madonna was okay in was Dick Tracy. Mariah Did way better in precious. No comments on the Spice Girls since they've thankfully descended into irrelevance.

Re: Beyonce. I respectfully disagree on the attractive part. As a singer I do agree to an extent. I like her better than I do the likes of Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Keri Hilson. But she's nowhere near the level of better R&B and pop singers such as Mary J Blige, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, Angie Stone and so on.

As far as acting goes, I do consider her to be a better actress than Madonna. But her range is extremely limited.

I've never heard of Keri Hilson or Angie Stone, I think Gaga, Perry and Xtina are 10X more talented then Beyonce(Single Ladies is an overrated song and WAAAYYYYYY overplayed) All of Beyonce's best material was with Destiny's Child, but on her own she's not very impressive her solo albums just don't do it for me.

I second this choice and while it can be argued that it is a legitimately good film without the sex (I'd certainly make that argument) it's equally valid to argue that the steamy lesbian action is a nice fringe benefit! :D :D

I would say Obsessed was worthy seeing for that last fight between her and Ali Larter: comic gold!

The main thing about Obsessed that I hated was how unlikeable the female protagonist was, she's so riduculously paranoid and irritating that's it hard to believe that ANYONE could stand being married to her for more then a week, let alone several years, the stalker actually came across as sympathetic and likeable by comparison, and the final fight while well-done, was almost cringe-worthy because of Beyonce's godawful dialogue.
