While I can understand (but disagree with) how you feel on Inception, I would argue about The Social Network's greatness and well deserved critical appraisal. It's a damn fine movie.

Oh I meant to say that I consider those three to be great film candidates.

Yes! Like Ken, I ended 2010 by trying to squeeze in a few highly regarded releases with the hope that I'd have another pick for my best-of list. Cyrus came with high expectations but didn't meet them. It's somewhere between mediocre and just plain bad.

Monsters wasn't as highly regarded (at least in the US. I've heard UK critics were more favourable) but it was still well-reviewed. I'm always down for sci-fi and have been known to go easy on the genre if it does a decent job of stimulating me. This one is better than Cyrus, but it's another disappointment and is overrated in some parts.

You've lost me with the "jerk". Mark Ruffalo?

Some others: "The Fighter" seemed to me a rather dull story which managed to make its boxing scenes and Triumph over Adversity (and not all that much Adversity) unexciting.

"The Town" is simply not a good movie yet some critics think it's a candidate for for a best picture nomination.

I actually found Splice a little underrated. Hmmm...maybe I should make another list.

No, not Ruffalo. Bening. I found her character to be extremely unlikeable, and I would've preferred it that Julianne Moore left her for Ruffalo.

Inception, by a country mile. No.4 on IMDB's Top 250? Give me a break.

Well it's down to Number 6, but I agree wholeheartedly.

If you are going to call a film overrated due to the film's fanboys, then over half of the movies on the IMDB's top 250 are overrated.

Why ilm, this looks a lot like someone's top 10 of 2010. I guess you found a lot of movies overrated this year?

I agree with corey wholeheartedly because truer words have never been spoken. Every new movie is overrated on imdb. Especially those released in the last couple of years. The Dark Knight debuted at #1 on imdb's list and stayed there for months. Toy Story 3 was also in the top 10 for quite some time this year.

Inception clearly isn't the 6th best film of all time but imo it's still the best film I've seen for the year.

A point, but most critics jizzed on it as much as the fanboys did

I love how Shawshank's Wikipedia entry doesn't even bother to mention its #1 status on IMDB.

I understand that to some degree, because IMDB standings fluctuate fairly often, but it's been cemented there since The Dark Knight came out, so yeah, I think some enterprising editor should get on that shit

To be fair, I liked The Town, True Grit and 127 Hours, I just didn't love them.

The Kids Are Alright, I have a lot of problems with, but in the end, it was okay.

Hereafter and Red are not bad films but they are not exactly successful ones either IMO.

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World is okay during some of the quiet moments, but I HATED the over the top video game inspired moments. It's just a monumentally silly to me.

I really wanted to like The King's Speech, and while it gets off to a strong start, I found the movie to be rather boring in the mid section of the movie.

But I definitely didn't like Casino Jack at all. I also think James overpraised Kevin Spacey's performance. He's fine but I definitely would not put it up there along side with his work in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects. Not even close.

A lot of people seemed to really Predators for some reason. I found the movie the movie to be tedious and none of the characters to be cool or interesting.

I really don't see how Predators is overrated since it received relatively mixed reviews, I wasn't really big on Predators myself though, I just found it very forgettable and average, i'm probably alone on this but I found AVP:Requiem to be MUCH more enjoyable as a whole.

AVP: Requiem had one memorable badass character. Predators had nonmemorable sometimes badass characters,

AVP:R had ZERO memorable characters. Not even Michelle Dessler was that memorable sadly. BUT, it was still more enjoyable than Predators IMO.

You might be right about Predators being more mixed, but it seemed to me like there was enough good reviews to include it. A lot of people were claiming it to be a major improvement on the AVP flicks and was almost as good as the first Predator, which I just don't agree with. As I said before, it was tedious and the characters were one note and boring. Adrian Brody tried to do some kind of Clint Eastwood imitation with his performance but he wasn't good or convincing to me. He was miscast. The twist involving Topher Grace was laughable. I didn't care for the movie at all.

The Predator was what I was talking about.

Just saw Inception, and it was somewhat enjoyable but definitely vastly overrated by most critics, the visuals are certainly first-rate and inventive(though I was dissapointed that the dreams got progessively less creative and much more derivative as the film went on) but the film dosen't suceed nearly as well with it's characters as none of them are really too well-developed, Ellen Page does a decent job, but she's unfortunately stuck playing a character that is little more then a plot device, and while Dicaprio's performance is pretty good for the most part, it pales in comparison to his work in films like Blood Diamond and his character isn't very dimensional, the action scenes were competently done though not particularly engaging(Many will undoubtedly call blasphemy on this statement, but I honestly think Michael Bay does a better job directing action then Nolan does)Plus the film starts to drag after awhile as it's FAR too long for it's own good, it would've greatly benefited from being half an hour or so shorter. Bottom line, it's a decent film and nothing more.

If Inception had been written as a pure pschological sci-fi thriller without the extended action scenes, I would have liked it a whole lot more. However, its biggest failing for me is that the dream worlds are not at all dream-like. Ellen Page is inroduced as being able to alter dream worlds and bend cityscapes, and then proceeds to do nothing.
