Planet earth is about to be destroyed

Post Planet earth is about to be destroyed
Hi everyone,

Bad news, I'm afraid. I just got off the phone with Barack (he said he reads Reelviews and is posting here under a pseudonym called Trevor ) and that on top of the depression, evil space aliens are heading towards earth and that he's picked up transmissions that suggest that they are going to destroy us in 5 days.

As film fans there is only one thing to do - frantically watch movies!

You have 5 days to see 5 films before you're wiped out, squished if you will. They have to be films that you've always wanted to see and have never seen before. There will be no Bruce Willis blasting asteroids this time, we are toast.

So what five films would you choose to be your last?

Rob

PS - I guess this thread ends in 120 hours :-)

Hi SFW, long time no speak :-)
There's a very unusual choice in there? Are you a Susan George fan?

Hi Will,
You're going to die and you choose Troll 2. Come on, it's like a man on death row asking for a Big mac as his last meal :-)

Well if you have something funny that I haven't yet...

Life of Brian is probably my favorite comedy and would watch it if I could.

Rob

But viewing Troll 2 before dying might be just the thing to help make you more eager to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Rob, just because you started the thread doesn't make you exempt from Apocalypse! What are your 5 movies? :)

Hi The Watcher,

I posted this thread hoping to get some ideas.

I think that I am older than many on this forum and have been actively watching films for nearly 40 years. Sadly for me, many of the classics and great films round here are lost to a first viewing. I am so envious of what's ahead for some.

I would pick:

Late Spring - I simply love the films of Ozu

Coraline - I have not seen it and i love animation. Time is literally running out.

Le Doulos or Deuxieme Souffle - I'm working my way through Melvcille and have adored them all so far.

Pickpocket - I have only ever seen two Bresson movies and loved them both.

Of Time And the City - Hopefully I'm going to see this in the next 2 weeks anyway. It's the latest from Terence Davies who made one of my favorite films ever - Distant Voices Still Lives

and I'd hide one film I'd seen in my trousers after all, what can they do, shoot me?

Rob

Batman and Robin
Battlefield Earth
The Love Guru
Godzilla
The Day After Tomorrow

I figure that way I'd be less depressed to die.

Being There
Serpico
The King of Comedy
North by Northwest
1941

Just because these are on my "Next Movies to See" list.

I've seen "The Day After Tomorrow" over ten times. My kids adore this movie and we went through a phase of it being on all the time.

I guess if this was the end I would want to watch the most depressing movies imaginable, to make the after life or whatever may come seem better, whether it be heaven, hell, purgatory, or nothing.

Requiem for a Dream
Happiness
In the company of men
The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things

And on my last day, Zombie Strippers because as a horror movie fan, that's probably as bad as it can get.

My formula would go like this with my favourite in each category:

1. Most Personal and Relateable (get the memories and nostalgia going)
2. Insanely Hilarious (by the end you forget that the world is gonna end - OR are completely unaffected by it :D )
3. Deeply Meaningfull (makes the world seem much bigger that just you)
4. Old School (temporarily allows to relive lost youth)
5. Romantic Comedy (something you saw with someone 'special')

so to fill'er in:

1. As Good as It Gets
2. Tropic Thunder
3. Crash
4. Bedazzled
5. Love, Actually

Hmm some people seem to be doing stuff they've seen before...
But for ones I haven't seen, there's:

Casablanca (I know, zomg!)
The Decalogue
The General
Seven Samurai
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser

I would at least want to go out with my brain working and what not. I'll most likely get around to these films soon, so this list'll have to change!

Yeah, as noted above, to go out with something new and unseen, or with old favourites? For the former, and with some shame that I haven't yet seen these:

Three Colours Red (and the White and Blue sequels if I count the trilogy as 1 movie)
The Seven Samurai
The Class
Ran
The Pianist

But for known comfort:
Enfants du Paradis
Wings of Desire
Before Sunrise
Bladerunner (but which cut?)
Life of Brian (And defintely last to be seen. Cue exit music.... )
