Your most anticipated movies-2009 list

Post Re: Your most anticipated movies-2009 list
Definitely Avatar.

Maybe I'm biased because I grew up as a child of the late 80's and 90's but I really think Cameron is underrated. He never really comes up in "best director" category discussion despite winning an Oscar. From my perspective, he doesn't get the critical acclaim like Scorcese or Speilberg nor does he make quirky movies like the Coens or Anderson, but if you look at the size and scope of his movies you actually say he takes bigger risks then anyone else. Does everyone remember all the talk in the summer of 97' about the cost of Titanic...basically everyone shut up as soon as it came out. When it comes to big budget ambitions, mostly action dominated movies, no one has ever had a better run than Aliens, Abyss, T2, True Lies and then Titanic. Obviously Cameron's status had been reduced somewhat by a lack of production which only raises the stakes more with Avatar. I'm also looking forward to it because Cameron has always been groundbreaking in terms of visual achievement and I honestly think he wouldn't of done another movie unless he had something major to contribute to the medium. Glad to see others here are also looking forward to it.

Other than that I'm lukewarm on the other "heavy hitters". Transformers, HP 6, Watchmen, Star Trek, etc are all must see's but none really have me psyched.

One not mentioned so far that I am intrigued by is the Time-Travelers Wife. Hate this genre but loved the book and I don't know if others have noticed but this book has really gained a lot of traction over the last few years. Seems like everyone has read it....plus I really like McAdams and Bana...hope it finally comes out. I know one or two people who I can't normally get to the movies will see this...so that makes it unique.

As for Scrosese's Shutter Island, it's actually titled Ashecliffe now and is a "duh" for my Most Anticipated list.

I'm really looking forward to a lot this year! Outside of everything that's been mentioned...

Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Biutiful" - By now, it should be clear you can't miss any of Iñárritu's films!

Todd Solondz's "Forgiveness" - The director is wonderful, i'll see anything he does.

Miranda July's "Satisfaction" - There's no real news about the film yet, but July's debut in "Me and You and Everyone We Know" was really charming.

That doesn't have a release date yet to my knowledge. However another Spielberg project, his Abraham Lincoln biopic, might come out later this year. Its supposed to be beginning production soon.

Anyways my list
Shutter Island
The Limits of Control
Up
Public Enemies
Funny People
A Serious Man
Terminator 4
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
Inglorious Basterds

The Road, Shutter Island, Inglourious Basterds, Up, etc. I'm still trying to see everything from 08 so 2009 seems like a distant future right now.

I know it's technically an 08 movie, but my most anticipated of 09 is The Brothers Bloom. Brick was fantastic and the before buzz has been really good, so here's hoping.

Other than that I'd also like to see Terminator 4, Funny People, 500 Days of Summer, The Soloist, Star Trek, Ashecliffe, Avatar, The Lovely Bones, Drag Me to Hell, Up, The Road and 9.

Knowing with Nicholas Cage looks intriguing.

I don't like Dan Brown, but the Illuminati angle in "Angels and Demons" might want me to see it by then.

Terminator 4

Anything from Spielberg

Never been a Terminator fan. Forgot to mention Star Trek. Highly concerned about Wolverine. Which trailers?

Harry Potter.

I still rant and rave to my husband, my family, my friends, pretty much anyone that will listen to me about it being moved from November until July.

Especially for the REASONS that it was moved.

*sighs*

It will be here soon enough as long as WB doesn't decide to move it again.

I'm curious to see how this whole 3-D thing is going to work out. JB saved me some money with his review of Journey to the Center of the Earth, but I think there's a lot they can do with this format given the right plot.

Sign me up for Avatar, UP and (although not 3-D) Star Trek.
