Most dull, uninvolving, agonizing film you ever sat through

I didn't think much of any of the Bourne films myself, I thought they were pretty average at best, frankly I REALLY don't get what's so great about them IMO. I hope Greengrass and Damon's next film together-Green Zone is an improvement, and I also hope that Greengrass dosen't use the shaky cam or at least dosen't overuse it.

Yeah I was dumbfounded by the critical acclaim for the Bourne films. I agree with Ken that Identity was decent--involving-enough plot, comprehensible camerawork (even if Liman is a "worse" director than Greengrass) good villain--but even that one didn't blow me away. Yawn.

Agreed. Identity is my favourite also. I've found that the shaky cam in the sequels irritates even more when rewatching. It's a pity that those techniques weren't toned down for Ultimatum. It probably would be my favourite if I could ever see everything that was happening.

I regret watching "Freddy Got Fingered. It was on HBO and the only reason why I watched it was that it couldn't be that bad.

Oh, it is. It's bad, bad, bad and horribly bad. I'd say the movie "sucks" but if it did it would've been good for something. And it doesn't come close. Rip Torn was unspeakably awful in it. Tom Green? Ugh! And the scary part is that there are some people out there who think it's a "good movie".

I'd rather have my fingers smashed ala Leonardo DiCaprio's in "Body Of Lies" than watch that damn thing ever again. Hell, I'd watch "Death Proof" again compared to me staring into that black, bleak abyss of mediocrity. I actually feel dirty to this day after being a witness to that cinematic atrocity. The cold comfort is not owning a copy of it.

I had the same feeling watching North.

I only watched the trailer for "North" on television. And that convinced me not to watch it. Maybe it was the accordion music playing over the Amish clip from the film that telegraphed its badness.

The worst movie I've seen in a theater was "Cool World". Gawd that was a nasty beast. I think everyone here knows the hype of that trainwreck so I won't re-iterate it here. I blame that on my college years and hooking up with a friend to watch it. I left the theater disappointed. My friend liked it.

Cool World. Not even an attempt to seductively animate Kim Basinger could save this film from the pits of boredoom. It's one of the few times I've come close to actually falling asleep in a movie. I distinctly remember thinking to myself "Where did they dig up this awful actor Brad Pitt? He isn't going anywhere." As much as I like him now, he was monumentally terrible in that film.

Hilarious. I didn't realize you'd also listed Cool World until after my post. It's comforting to know that I wasn't alone in my misery.

Sphere was the most I've looked at my watch throughout a film, until Revolver came along.

Revolver is the worst two hours I've ever spent in a cinama. By the end I wanted to hang myself to end the horror of it.

1)"Last Year at Marienbad"
That's the only film on which I've fallen asleep. The guy sitting next to me had to bump me two times as I had dozed off on his shoulder.

2)"Satyricon"
No plot to speak of, like most of Fellini's films. Just a string of bizzare and confusing incidents experienced by some uninteresting caricatures. The art direction isn't just eccentric, it's downright awful and surprisingly cheap-looking.

3)"Andrei Rublev"
"Stalker" and "Solaris" look like Michael Bay flicks compared to this sloooooooooow Tarkovsky opus about a 15th century icon painter. Yeah, it's as interesting as it sounds.

Man are you right about Satyricon. It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen and, yes, agony to sit through. It's like Fellini's Freddy Got Fingered, but more boring. And that's barely hyperbole.

After the pain that was Solaris and Stalker, I'm never watching Andrei Rublev, no matter how many "great movie" lists and books it shows up in. Tarkovsky is just not for me.

I liked Bourne Ultimatum better than the Bourne Identity and Supremacy, a lot more actually. So I think it might be able to squeak up to three stars in your opinion because that was about my view of Bourne Supremacy, 2.5. But i gave Ultimatum 3. Though it is still the same style movie and characters so maybe not.

I still have no idea what was happening in any of those movies, and I think I saw Supremacy two or three times.

I would nominate House of 1000 Corpses, but that was less dull and more agonizing (very agonizing), so I nominate 10,000 B.C. I don't think there are very many movies I have hated more then this dreck. An incoherent, boring, painful and stupid piece of trash with a capital T. I was bored near the beginning with the woolly-mammoth hunting scene, I was pissed off at the the attack of giant ostriches, and was damn near suicidal after the "oh look, a saber tooth tiger about to drown, I think I'll let it go. Oh what do you know it let me live!" and the movie still had another hour to go; damn saber tooth tiger had TWO chances to end the movie, but apparently masochism is cross-species.

The Dark with Maria Bello and Sean Bean. The only good thing about this was looking at the beautiful Bello. What a crappy 'horror' flick. Agonizing is a perfect description. Stay away, stay far away...

I'm an eternal optimist and, with the exception of one film, have never stopped watching a film after I started. Satyricon is that exception. I was just getting into movies and noticed "Fellini" in the title. I had heard the name, so I gave it a go. I lasted all of five minutes. If memory serves right, that opening was filled with weird gay sex in some kind of cave.

I would like to add "The Ice Storm" in the mix. That was certainly a dull and uninvolving movie, if there ever was one.

Now, I understand that Ang Lee wanted to make a connection between the emotionally cold individuals and the frozen Connecticut landscape. But IMHO he went a little too far and made his characters a bunch of self-centered, self-loathing losers that are completely unappealing to the viewer. Whining and looking like a deer in headlights isn't going to make us root for them.

Not helping matters is the fact that besides Christina Ricci, everybody else acts like a school play reject. Kevin Klein, Jamey Sheridan and Elijah Wood's performances are especially cringe-worthy.

I LOVE Tarkovsky, but I have never made it all the way through Andrei Rubylev without falling asleep.

Poor Solaris. It may be slow but it isn't, not for one minute, boring. It's on the short list for best film of the seventies.

Then again, I'm the only one in this forum (apparently) who thinks Gerry, Elephant, and Last Days are all more than worthy pictures.

The most bored I've been watching a movie? The Human Stain. Tremendously glacial and, because Sir Anthony just can't drop that accent, tremendously bad. Among the worst experiences I've had watching a movie.

I'll also submit Steven Soderbergh's The Good German. Endlessly talky and featuring the worst performance of borderline bad actor Tobey Maguire.

I haven't seen Che but I've heard that it rivals dreamless sleep for entertainment value. I'll be passing.

Elephant was good, right?! James(Kunz) pointed out a lot of things he hated about the film and they ended up being many of the things I really liked about it. My guess is that he has a low tolerance for the blanket term of what I call "cheapness". Cheapness being such things as extremely long, seemingly pointless takes. And things such as the weirdly satirical sight of girls vomiting in the bathroom. I thought Elephant did a fine job of mining both cliche and reality in order to put the violence of the film into some perspective. It had the cartoonish element in order to give the most cartoonish thing of all, a couple of murderous kids, more gravity. It worked for me although, again, I don't mind cheapness in the service of a salient point. I won't go so far as to claim Elephant is essential cinema but it is a welcome entry in Van Sant's filmography. He's got a poetic sensibility about the worst possible things... how many other filmmakers even bother? I'm glad there aren't many films like Van Sant's out there but cinema would suffer without his output. Or so says me.
