Best in more then a decade, better then good horror films that have come sense, better then any horror film in the '90's (including Blair Witch Project which I think is a masterpiece of the genre), better then most anything that came out in the '80's, its just that damn good.

And if I have to pick a LOTR film to serve as one besides all three, I would have to go with the Fellowship of the Ring. Your welcome... I still disagree.

Hmmmm that's one of the first appearances of Sin City in this thread. I wonder if movies like 300 and The Spirit have dulled its luster, but it was really quite a film.

That aside Patrick, I pretty much...hate your list. I find both Wall-E and The Dark Knight overrated but can understand, kinda, what people see in them. But your 5-9 (not counting Spirited Away, which I haven't seen) are ridiculous. Anchorman? I mean, even if it was the most hilarious movie of the decade (which it bloody ain't) you think it's better than There Will Be Blood? And fuckin' Hot Fuzz? A sporadically funny movie that somehow stretches itself out for over 2 poorly-paced hours? Oh man. Spider-man 2 was a tepid sequel that forgot the battle of good vs. evil is a central theme to such films and somehow spun another film out of the back-and-forth romance between Peter Parker and Mary Jane. And Star Wars III...wow.

Look I know that came off kinda dickish, and everyone's entitled to his own opinion yada yada yada, but maaaaan do you need to watch Pan's Labyrinth, City of God, Memento, 25th Hour, Mulholland Drive, Almost Famous, United 93, Inglourious Basterds and a whole slew of other movies again until those movies are cleansed from your Top 10

I don't mind you being a dick, it's your persona and I know you were going to hate it but it was mostly a prototype list anyways. The only pick I'll defend is Hot Fuzz since it is the most loving tribute to action movies that I have ever seen since I have seen quite a bit of action movies....like Vexer-levels of action movies. Also, I liked the damn prequels.

As for what I should like:

Pan's Labyrinth - saw it, technically and visually great. Emotionally weak and that girl
[Reveal] Spoiler:
deserved to die.

City of God - saw that, liked it very much but I barely a damn thing about it which is sad since I should put it up there but not until I rewatch it to remember why.
Memento - it was on my list....number 4.
25th Hour - never saw it
Muholland Drive - I like it more than I usually do Lynch films but it falls apart after the box.
Almost Famous - I saw that and I like it really much, may be top 20 material
United 93 - never saw it, but my parents do have it on DVD.
Inglorious Basterds - I do want to see it and I even tried looking for it but I only saw the Blu-Rays and no DVD's...I don't have a Blu-Ray player.

Pleasure talking Patrick...wow did I goof with Memento there :)

As for Hot Fuzz...even if it's a loving tribute to action movies, so what? Love and Death is a loving tribute to Russian literature but it's still one of Allen's weakest films. Waiting for Guffman is a loving tribute to small-town theater (and an incredible enjoyable film) but it's still not as good a film as, say, Saving Private Ryan. But you're clearly capable of defending your picks, so I need not argue further

And, hey, being a dick isn't my persona--arguing is my persona! And so what if they're pretty much the same thing on an online forum, I think there's a difference!

Meh, The Ster...errr...Patrick loves his genre films. I have no problem with this since he does make the effort to check out classics and artier stuff which he often likes. My only problem with this whole thing is that I'm kind of defending him here. Why are you doing this, Ed?

Oh right. Spidey 2. It's the bomb yoah. As far as super hero sequels are concerned, only TDK tops it. Doc Ock is to me a far more interesting villain because he isn't inherently evil. All that Peter/MJ stuff just added to the story. Rare is the sequel that doesn't eschew character development. Spidey 2 might even have more of it than the original.

Old enough to tell young whippersnappers like you to get off my lawn while I spout stories about how I walked barefoot to school 15 miles in the freezing snow uphill BOTH WAYS!

He kinda apologized for saying him tearing my lists heart out and squeezing it and I kinda accepted his apology....now get off my lawn.

1 Requiem For A Dream
2 Memento
3 The Dark Knight
4 Pans Labyrinth
5 Downfall
6 Zodiac
7 No Country For Old Men
8 There Will Be Blood
9 Million Dollar Baby
10 Black Hawk Down

Honroable Mention:
The New World
Far From Heaven
Castaway
The Incredibles
Wall E
The Pianist
Maria Full OF Grace
United 93
Munich
The Departed
Match Point
The Hurt Locker
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
The Road
Batman Begins
Spiderman2
Kingdom Of Heaven Dir Cut
Twilight Samurai
The Fountain
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
Watchmen Dir Cut
Children Of Men
25th Hour
Lost In Translation
LOTR FOTR
Assassination Of Jessie James.....
The Proposition
Gangs Of New York
Chopper

This list could go on and on. So many great films in the past decade.

As you can see I dont have a problem with Spiderman2 being on a list. Spiderman2,Pans Labyrinth, LOTR .... I really dont see a difference - theyre all fantasy. TDK appears on many best of lists....deservingly so.

I really need to see get around to finally seeing City Of God,4Months3 Weeks2 Days and The Lives Of Others.

Mulholland Drive appears on alot of lists. But for me, like Sunshine and A.I., the ending was so weak its hard to call it a great film IMHO. I do love it though. Its those last few minutes that really bring it down.

Oh and about the Pans Labyrinth spoiler above.....
[Reveal] Spoiler:
2 hints that what she experienced was real and not in her head. Her mother got better and worst with the mandrake and how did Ofelia get out of a locked attic with a guard standing outside who was given orders to kill should she try to escape or someone try to rescue her? The Faun gave her the chalk. Later,we see the door she made on the wall when Mercedes enters in the room with the rebels. Ofelia didnt imagine anything, it was all real.

I'm not gonna rank them. Instead, I'm just gonna post a list of 20 movies I felt were truly great. Most of them are some of my all-time favorites, which is why ranking them is rather difficult and annoying for me.

You are very much welcome to rank them in a way that suits you.

So, in alphabetical order:

3:10 to Yuma (2007)
Batman Begins (2005)
Casino Royale (2006)
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
Gone Baby Gone (2007)
Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005)
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Le scaphandre et le papillon (2007)
Memento (2000)
Minority Report (2002)
Moon (2009)
Munich (2005)
Signs (2002)
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
The Dark Knight (2008)
The Departed (2006)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
The Pianist (2002)
The Prestige (2006)
Traffic (2000)

Oh definitely. Avatar was good, but only because of the CGI. Other than that, the script was pretty underwhelming - even though I actually went in with low expectations for the script. That's saying something.

Moon was an overall excellent film, one of the best sci-fi films in recent memory. Easily superior to District 9 as well.

I keep wishing/hoping that Sam Rockwell gets an Best Actor Oscar nomination but somehow I know it's not gonna happen...

Moon was one of my favorite films last year. Sadly, I don't think enough people actually saw it to be considered by any of the major awards organizations. Sam Rockwell demonstrated incredible range in that role. It ranks right up there with Tom Hanks in Cast Away.
