Ebert posted his list of best art movies in 2010. Too English Language-centric for my liking, but quite curious anyway.

I have not seen a discussion of this book here. It is called Take 100: 100 New Directors.
Seems interesting. I took a post from the following link.

Looks like this guy just typed out the whole list. I only saw films from some 5-10 directors, another 20-30 I already have in my collection, but have not seen and will try to now.
For the rest click this:

Nice find. Majoraphasia created a thread with the best directors under 35 a while back and we couldn't find too many. While I'm not sure about the age of the listed directors, I will venture to say that they're relatively young for the profession. Certainly some names to keep your eye on (although I'm not convinced about all of them. Duplass Bros, I mean you.).

End of Year BUMP!

The AV Club released their top movies of 2011 list. Unfortunately, this list doesn't include all the 2011 releases:
Quote:
A few titles weren’t available to see before press time—The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked among them

James is right. It's stupid that year-end lists are being released when folks have not seen some of the potentially best movies of the year. Just push the press-time back a few weeks.

Anyway, here's the top 15 (click through to pages 2 and 3 for more stuff):

The NY Times has an interesting list of 2011's overlooked films:

I followed the link and was shocked to read that he placed Meek's Cutoff on his worst of 2011 list. Granted, I haven't seen the film but I've heard mostly great things. Actually, I only have problems with his top 3. I can explain the rest.

His top 10 list is pretty spotty too. I like that he's an independent thinker but Midnight in Paris? I liked the film a lot but it has no business being at the top of any list.

*raises hand nervously* Except for mine, of course. *cough* :D

Although if pressed I would probably admit Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is the more complete accomplishment and the all-around better film.

This reminds me, I still need to get around to finalizing my top 10.

Didn't read the explanations but seemed solid enough. If anything, it has encouraged me to check out Take Me Home Tonight. I'll have a look-see at what the movie boy likes.
