I was thinking about this after watching 'Inglorious Basterds (2009) last week.
Not a
great film, but a very good one with at least 2 of the greatest scenes I've seen.
1. The opening which provides for unbelievable tension as Waltz's character drags out the location of the Jewish family beneth the floor boards from his at first cool, then emotionally wrecked, host
2. The basement/tavern scene which is at once funny (lieutenants Munich and Frankfurt

) agonisingly tense; and joy inducing when you think for a minute they've got away with it.
Great moments in modern cinema.
