 Re: Flash Adverts
I've had the problem (located in Oxford, UK)--using Firefox on a Mac OSX, Firefox on Ubuntu, and Opera on Ubuntu.
James, yours is not the only site where I've seen this problem (though I can't quite bring to name the other site). It's a pretty severe problem and needs to be fixed.

 Re: Flash Adverts
Could someone who's getting these ads (that means someone in the U.K.) please click on one of them (the "TV licensing" ones) and provide me with the domain name it takes you to. With that information, I may be able to block them. I'm assuming the ads are served by Tribal Fusion, which has an unfriendly publisher interface to work with.

 Re: Flash Adverts
I have blocked "http://adfarm.mediaplex.com/" - let's see if this does anything. Give it a few hours to roll through the ad chain. If the TV Licensing ad is still showing up tomorrow, I'll have to try Plan B.

 Re: Flash Adverts
Tha ads are back Problem ones... http://www.affiliatewindow.com/ads/686/ ... banner.jpg - Jpeg banner not positioning properly. The flash one, I don't know, it redirects too fast. I hate flash.. If I click around your site for a bit they eventually go away. Very annoying. I can't be the only one suffering this am I?

 Re: Flash Adverts
No, quite a few UK readers are afflicted. I took the somewhat radical move of deleting one of the ad servers from my chain. They are the most likely culprit although not necessarily the only one. Let's see if things improve. If they don't, I'll mass-block every URL noted here. This is especially frustrating for me since I regularly bring up Chrome, IE, and Firefox and everything looks fine. (Seems to be the case for everyone in every country except the U.K.) It's tough to effectively fix what you can't see firsthand.

 Re: Flash Adverts
I have done some more manicuring/pruning, so if anyone is accessing from the U.K., let me know if you're still encountering a problem.

 Re: Flash Adverts
I've also had the problem of ads blocking content, and I live in Washington, DC. My recollection is that this happens mostly on the home page. Normally, refreshing the page gets rid of the ads, although this morning they didn't go away despite refreshing several times. I am using IE 8 on Windows 7 Home. The ads show a toothpaste ad and some Google ads covering the middle of the page. I will probably email Mr. Berardinelli a screen capture since I can't figure out how to attach it to this post in a picture image that's small enough.

I got the toothpaste as well but you can close that so that's not a problem.

 Re: Flash Adverts
There are one or two ads that, when viewed on IE, result in a situation where the ads end up in the middle of the page. This has nothing to do with flash; it has to do with the non-standard way IE handles margins - neither Firefox nor Chrome shows this problem.
Fixes include:
(1) refreshing the page - this usually results in a new group of ads and since there are only a few that cause this problem, it should go away (2) using something other then IE8. I'm actually surprised this is still as widely used as it is because, in the world of browsers, it's substandard (3) send me the URL that clicking on the link directs to. With that information, I can block it. This is how I was able to solve the problem with an offending link for U.K.
I check the site regularly with IE8, Firefox, and Chrome but have not encountered any of these issues. When I find something on my own, I handle it immediately. Screen grabs are nice, but what I really need is the URL (and, if you can get it, the name of the ad refrerrer: Tribal Fusion, Burst Media, Casale, ADSDAQ).
