I'm a little disappointed by the 2.5 stars. I like William Powell, and Myrna Loy is one of my favorite actresses ever. Guess I'll just stick to The Thin Man.

^you should check out the screwball comedy Libeled Lady, with Powell, Loy, Spencer Tracy & Jean Harlow. It lives up to its cast.
All the films in the Powell/Loy box set are worth seeing, but I like 'I Love You Again' the most.

Thanks Calvero, I'll be sure to check them out. What do you think of My Man Godfrey in comparison?

Calvero, have you seen Ziegfield? I'd like to do something like James, that is, all the best picture winners, but then I come across something like this: a 3+ hour musical. Sounds absolutely dreadful to me. Is it?

 Re: THE GREAT ZIEGFELD (1936)
haven't seen it. not a big fan of long movies these days(& I don't think any musical should be over 100 mins) But I do really like William Powell. Love that movie. Gregory La Cava is an underrated director from that era. And I think Lombard may be the best comic actress of all time. Libeled Lady is pretty darn good as well though(& a bit more manic) Harlow was also underrated.

What I've seen of Harlow I don't like; she did not impress me in either Public Enemy or Dinner at Eight. I need to see more of Lombard, but so far I like Loy a lot better. Godfrey is a good film, but not something I'd ever need to see again; I would compare it to The Awful Truth and Holiday in that respect.

You should see Bombshell, in which she plays a movie star hounded in every way(she even has a stalker) Not sure why this isn't more well known, its hilarious. I hear Platinum Blonde is great as well.

I love Harlow in Bombshell, Red Dust, Libeled Lady and Dinner at Eight; she's good in Beast of the City, too. She's truly awful in Hell's Angels and as for Public Enemy, my theory is that the director instructed her to play the character like she's had a lobotomy. Fortunately, the rest of the movie is great.

I'll definitely check out Libeled Lady, but I still say Dinner at Eight is no good. It's a half-baked rip-off of Grand Hotel with the added bonus of Marie Dressler.
