In all seriousness, great review. I like 'The Grifters' the most of Frears' works, but this film is certainly in the top 3.

Well done again, James. Malkovich's "It's beyond my control" monologue still resonates with me to this day. When I first saw it, at age 19, it was in the wake of "Cruel Intentions" which, contrary to your review, I thoroughly enjoyed at the time. (And it DID bring Reese Witherspoon to my attention.) Needless to say I was stunned by just how superior "Liaisons" was.

I also thought Uma Thurman was just fine, though I'd agree with you about Reeves.

Trivia, as well: Swoosie Kurtz later appeared in the opening scenes of "Cruel Intentions" as Ryan Philippe's psychiatrist. (Funnily enough, they tried a similar trick that year with Faye Dunaway in "The Thomas Crown Affair '99", which I believe was better than you made it out to be as well, James.)
