It was always going to be a 3.5 star review - great movie.

Is this the best baseball movie of all?

Personally, I'm partial to THE NATURAL, but I would put BULL DURHAM in second place, and probably fourth overall in the sports movie category (after THE NATURAL, ROCKY, and HOOSIERS).

I don't mean to get all pompous or high & mighty here, but there's gotta be something wrong with any man who doesn't consider Slap Shot to be the greatest sports movie. Doesn't even crack that top four, Berardinelli? Really?

I put SLAP SHOT in the "enjoyable" category, along with CADDYSHACK and MAJOR LEAGUE. There's no way I can justify placing it above the four titles I mentioned. Maybe fifth. It's certainly above stuff like RUDY, REMEMBER THE TITANS, THE ROOKIE, etc.

How about Field of Dreams? I'm from Iowa, and even I always thought it was a little overrated.

I'm wondering why I can remember nearly every line in this film after not viewing it for at least 18 years? The same goes with About Last Night.

The answer must be that, along with being very watchable films, they both contain plenty of sex scenes. In Australia they were released as M rated films, and my parents would not let me watch R rated films until I was about 16. Must have been gagging to watch films with sex scenes like these as a teenager. How bazaar.

Liked the review very much. Will have to revisit this film again when next roaming listlessly around the DVD store.

No more bizarre than some of the things I did to get my hands on copies of PLAYBOY magazine when I was 13, 14 years old.
