I miss the days when a comedy could run under 90 minutes. Judd Apatow has a lot to answer for.

The opening page says it all and I completely agree with it:

"A little too long and a little less fresh but otherwise pretty much the same ANCHORMAN."

Those are pretty much my exact thoughts. I basically agree with most of the review, except I still awarded the movie 3 stars out 4.

I generally don't mind longer comedies as long as they're actually funny.

What are some comedy sequels that don't feel like a carbon copy of the first film?

There was Whole Ten Yards, it took a rather different tone from the first film, which most critics hated, though I personally found it hilarious.

I thought the first one hopelessly unfunny (not a single laugh for me), so I figured this one would be slightly worse (usually the case with cash-grab comedy sequels). This won't even be a rental for me.

Wrong thread, I know. But did you get to see Nymphomaniac in the press screening?

Happen to see this in your twitter:

Forget ANCHORMAN 2. If you *really* want to laugh, hang on a week for Scorsese's THE WOLF OF WALL STREET.

At first I thought The Wolf of Wall Street's nomination for the comedy/musical golden globe was an awards ploy, but going by many critics and now JB, it is actually a full-on comedy? Interesting.

They've already had US press screenings for "Nymphomaniac"?

People will go to Anchorman 2 expecting to have the same kind of experience they had with the original Anchorman and, to an extent, the movie delivers.

Saw Anchorman 2, the short version is remind yourself of how much you liked the first one and knock it down a couple pegs. That's how much you'll like this one. It's an inferior shell of the first one, only 30 minutes longer and pretty much a rehash of the first one.

Having said that and considering that the first one is one my favorite movies period...I still had a good time with Anchorman 2. The news crew is still in fine form and there are many fine moments...even if nothing is really quotable in this one. See it if you really liked the first one.

And is just me or did Harrison Ford look like a horrible special effect and I'm not talking about the were-hyena.

Not that I'm aware of. I think there were a couple overseas where it's opening earlier. In fact, Magnolia (the U.S. distributor) rarely holds press screenings at all. They typically just send out screeners.

This is opening on VOD before it opens in theaters. That's not surprising since that's the way Magnolia handles things.

If you liked the first Anchorman you'll probably like this one as well. I'd rank it a notch or two lower. The main thing about Will Ferrel's brand of comedy is that it's painfully funny. There are parts in here taht are laugh out loud funny. But Also segments where the humor totally peters out. This was true here, in Talladega Nights and to a lesser extent in the original Anchorman. So definitely worth a watch. But not high on one's priority list.

I didn't think much of the first anchorman. This one again i didn't care for. I hope there isn't a third anchorman.

If there is one the it wil be called this: Anchorman: The Legend Ends.
