I thought you said you would only review VOD films if they got 3 stars or more? Anyways I quite liked this film, I thought Lindsay did a very good job and I think ther acting easily overcomes her reputation and I hope she can make a comeback.

Here's another more positive review:

Purportedly, George C. Scott once said to Schrader: "You’re a great screenwriter but the world’s worst goddamned director." That may be an exaggeration, but it's hard to reconcile The Canyons as coming from the man who wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, two of the 20th century's great motion pictures. Of course, those were only written by Schrader and their success certainly had something to do with the involvement of Martin Scorsese. Schrader's reputation behind-the-camera is checkered, featuring titles like American Gigolo and Auto Focus.

Schrader yes has been more successful writing with or for other directors. His own efforts have been less consistent. When he hits he hits (Blue Collar, American Gigolo, Light Sleeper, Affliction). But whne he misses the results can be painful (Touch, Forever Mine).

True, but for me even his failures are at least interesting.
