I still highly appreciate the novelty of Patrick Stewart's character in American Dad so I can see the opening narration being amusing. Unfortunately, the whole "lol it's Patrick Stewart" thing has been used on at least a couple of UK radio advertisements so it's getting pretty old.

Also Family Guy. I got fed up of that show a long time ago (It's now 8 years since I first saw it). I despise how self aware it is, how it tries to shrug off racism/sexism etc by claiming irony, the 80s nostalgia is just irritating (wow you remember the 80s, get over it), the envelope pushing is just badly handled and getting old, etc etc lame. ARCHER does a far better job of being both funny and low brow, and only once or twice have I cringed as a joke falls on it's face.

If Ted is anything like Family Guy, I can't see myself bothering.

Well I disagree with you there, I still love Family Guy and I don't think it's "racist" at all, (sexist, maybe, but no more so then most TV shows are these days) Archer isn't really my thing though, just dosen't strike me as funny, the best thing I can say about that show is that i'd much rather watch it then South Park.

It feels a little "been there, done that" after having seen the TV show "Wilfred", which has a similar premise.

I LOOOOOOOOVE Seth MacFarlane. Family Guy is so funny! I watch it daily and it still amuses me.

Cant wait for this! Hopefully it will get the shitfest Moonrise Kingdom out of my head (seriously JB, how could you give this a 3.5/4????).

And JB, are you a Family Guy fan?

Well he did mention in one of his Reelthoughts that he liked the Blue Harvest episode, so i'm guessing yes.

Have to agree with a quote above that this idea kind of looks like it is totally lifted from Wilfred where Wilfred is a stoner with a lot of one liners and they do creepy things with stuff animals.Plus it is getting harder to watch the infantile male shtick one more time.I am not sure who the audience for this will be with the R rating.

What's this Wilfred? I've never heard of it before.

A show on FX starring Elijah Wood. Started here in Oz and eventually got a US version (with the original creator as Wilfred) which personally I think is better. Its weird, surreal and hilarious but based on everything I've seen you post around here I don't think it would be your cup of tea, Vex. But definitely give it a go purely because it's something different from the average sitcom.

I don't really get a Wilfred vibe to this at all besides the "foul mouthed stoner". Wilfred's main hook is that the main character is perhaps completely nuts being the only one who can see a talking dog (as a human male in a dog suit). Ted seems to play on the notion that all this is completely normal.

Not a "fan," although I have enjoyed it from time-to-time. Haven't watched it in a while, though. My interest in TV has declined dramatically and I rarely watch it these days (except for Sesame Street, for obvious reasons).

I am a fan of Family Guy and American Dad!, but I'm reluctant to go and spend the price of a theater ticket to see this. I may check it out later when it goes to DVD/Blu Ray instead.

Do the trailers give away the best jokes? I've seen them a few times and they're hilarious but I still want to have a good time at the movie.

If you've seen the red band trailer...
[Reveal] Spoiler:
the only 2 jokes that I wish weren't in the trailer are the "fuck you thunder" song and when Whalberg rattles off white trash names

Other than that no...the best jokes are definitely left in the movie.

but take the R-rating seriously. This is as family-friendly as a divorce lawyer; if you want a kids' film about a cuddly bear, seek out Winnie the Pooh.

Someone actually brought their child in to the midnight screening of this thing. They saw all the nudity and drug and alcohol use, and heard all the language, and descriptions of sexual acts. Our rating system makes no sense. That critics have to tell parents not to take their kids into this thing is another indication of this.

Premise reminds me of the lame 80's sitcom ALF with the wise-cracking puppet (err, alien) from the planet Melmack. Looks about just as funny too - the trailer couldn't raise even a smile out of me (humor really is insanely subjective I guess). Still might catch it on DVD if word of mouth is good.
