Does including Religion with Science make it intelligent Sci
Apparently, all you need to qualify as smart science-fiction is to compare religion to science? In Prometheus, there is no real science or scientists. Nobody talks or acts like a scientist. It says a lot about the sad state of our education that most people don't understand the fundamentals of science. Many don't understand what a scientific theory means, they think it's what you choose to believe. A scientific theory has been proven over time, whether you believe in it or not doesn't matter, it exists in nature. A scientific theory is universal, it would function the same way in our planet or any other place in the universe. A theory in science is not the same as the word "theory" in vernacular language. Religion is specific to a certain ethic and cultural group. It changes over time due to different social and political pressures. I suppose, in addition to the major religions, there are currently hundreds of minor ones. There were thousands of religions from lost or conquered civilizations before the current ones, and there will be different forms of religion in the future. The inclusion of religion as a plausible explanation of natural phenomenon is a political and social one. Science fiction should be a great genre to write about what religions mean to humanity. But I haven't really seen it done well.
Prometheus is a decent Sci-Fi thriller, I give it 3 stars. The thriller aspects of the movie are done very well, everything else is not very good. The "scientists" pretty much behaves like characters from a horror movie. Also, the 3-D does not enhance the movie. The effects were only adequate, no need to see it in 3-D.

I totally disagree on the 3D. I thought it was the best 3D since Avatar.
Completely agree on the poor portrayal of scientists, however.

Re: Does including Religion with Science make it intelligent Sci
As those who read my writings know, I am not a 3-D apologist. Quite the contrary, in fact (read my review of ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE SLAYER). PROMETHEUS is a rare case when 3-D changes the experience. I have seen the entire movie in 3-D and key pieces of it in 2-D. Don't know if "fowonder" can say the same. There is a palpable difference. PROMETHEUS loses something going from 3-D to 2-D and will lose more going from big screen to small(er) screen. It's one of only a handful of movies I would recommend paying the surcharge for.

Also, CinemaBlend.com rates every 3D movie on a variety of criteria with a perfect score being 35. They gave Prometheus 33 out of 35 and called it "damn close to perfect" 3D. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/3D-Or-3D ... 31278.htmlAnd for the record, I found out about this score well after I'd formed my own (highly favorable) opinion of Prometheus's 3D.

 Re: PROMETHEUS
The 3D...it was quite stellar. Goes on my VERY short list of movies that were worth the 3D surcharge.
So i'm gonna agree with James on this one.

 Re: PROMETHEUS
I will see native 3D films in 3D, but I always see post-production converted films in 2D.
Shortly into Prometheus, I forgot I was watching a 3D film, which I guess means it was good.

I compare all 3D effects to Avatar
I agree that this might be the best 3D since Avatar. But Avatar stands alone in it's use of 3D, and it's the only 3D movie that I feel was worth the 3D surcharge. In Prometheus, I saw the depth, but I didn't feel it. Because the movie was so dark, the background was hard to see sometimes. I thought it was adequate. You get a little more depth for a little bit of blurriness in the background. I also don't watch any movies with badly reviewed 3D, so maybe I also don't get to feel that sense of relief when somebody does it right.

 Re: PROMETHEUS
I will wager that if anybody here saw two movies, one with native 3D and one with post conversion job, they would not be able to tell the difference had they not been told ahead of time. Also, Star Wars is just NOT science fiction by any stretch of the imagination. As for Apollo 13... given that it was simply a dramatization of real events concerning the use of science to further the cause of human kind, I will gladly give it the stamp of Science Fiction. THEN, I will go and get laid rather than writing TL;DR, cheeto dusted point by point arguments about why my knowledge is bettar than yours

I managed to do both, minus the Cheeto dust. (Eat Cheetos with chop sticks. Boom. Problem solved.)

Yep. Star Wars is technically Fantasy -- with Sci-Fi elements (and the main reason the 2 genres are now so frequently lumped together).

 Re: PROMETHEUS
I thought I was the only one to eat Cheetos (and buttered popcorn) that way. Now that my arteries are clogged and bypassed I don't eat either of them. My daughter keeps using my chopsticks as drumsticks and thy're always dirty now anyway. Never did get around to seeing Prometheus last week, but hope to catch it in 3D before it gets out of the theaters.

 Re: PROMETHEUS
I guess the 3D was alright, though my enjoyment was significantly lessened by my lack of enjoyment of the movie. I also detest the feature, as I find it makes the screen much too murky due to the filter on the glasses.
Was it worth the surcharge? I don't know, considering I don't think the film itself was worth the money.
