 Re: BATTLESHIP
Well that the interview was about the physical abuse she suffered from Chris Brown, so I definitely would not use that choice of words if I were you., even if you don't like Rihanna, abuse is nothing to joke about.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
I'm aware of what happened to her, and I feel like she deserves better. That doesn't mean I like her or don't find her slutty persona to be thoroughly abhorrent.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
Well personally I don't think "articulate" translates to "I can act". I like to think I'm articulate, but I know I can't act.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
I don't get why it is thoroughly abhorrent. It is hard to tell if that is the real person or just the character Rihanna that she is playing out for the music public.Where is the line we draw between sexy and slutty. It is almost like calling out Anne Hathaway for taking her clothes off in more than one movie as having a slutty persona but we call that the craft of acting instead.Another example would be Danica Patrick who wants to be a serious race car driver but keep getting into lingerie photo shoots or GoDaddy commercials which seems profitable as a branding tool with mainly race fans but maybe professional counterproductive with your racing peers.Just saying it may not be a personality flaw but just business.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
Of course it's business, that doesn't mean people have to like it. Maybe it's just because I've spent my adult life learning an artistic medium (I will be dead before I use the word 'artist') but I actually have a real problem with charlatanism (see Lady Gaga). Is Rihanna putting it all on? Maybe. But unlike Lady Gaga, she has never done anything to show people that there is another side to her (referencing Lady Gaga being a piano player outside her... persona? Whatever you want to call it!). Ergo it's not hard or unreasonable to conclude, however mistaken, that this is just how she is.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
We do not know these people we only know them through the filter of media unless they break the law. They are in the business of entertainment and they are acting out a character(sexy edgy pop singer) for us when the cameras are on.Even when you go out with your girlfriend your putting on act to impress her and then drop the act when she is out of sight or you feel like your in the driver's seat.Is that the real you or I'm trying to get what I want you.Unless your intimate friends with these people you just can't tell if they really are what you think they are. The best example is Tiger Woods who built a solid image of being the great golfer and family man which was endorsed and sanctified by corporate sponsor media machine then swallowed whole by the public. Now we know it was all false and his personality since those incidents just seems to be one misstep after another.Even Madonna which is the template for Gaga and Rihanna has turned into a conservative soccer mom lately especially when the ultra conservative NFL allows her to do the big Super Bowl halftime show. I would bet my left arm that if Rihanna actually showed up and introduced herself to you and your friends you would treat her like royalty and not call her any names.I would go further and guess that if she invited herself to sit and hang out you would grab a chair for her and ask if a picture could be taken with her.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
Okay I'll rephrase my statement: From the information I've been given, however unreliable, I dislike Rihanna. I was on the fence about Chris Hemsworth since he doesn't really look like a nice bloke but when I met him, he was just outstandingly nice. He was suddenly no longer a famous actor but just a guy my own age doing his dream job. Also, the breaking the law part is not an exception I'd say, since we only find out via the media and their spin on the issue anyway.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
Well i'd much rather meet Rihanna then say Mel Gibson, as an actor I think he's talented, but as a person I find him extremely abhorrent and repulsive because of his dsiturbing viewpoints, there's just no way I can muster up any kind of respect for someone who denies the holocaust ever happened, saying it "never happened" is one of the stupidest things you can possibly say.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
After reading an article that I linked on here that speculated that that the failure of Battleship (and John Carter, Total Recall and Dark Shadows) is symbolic of audiences growing disenchanted with mindless big budget crapfests I got to thiinking.
As has been noted elsewhere on this board, there's no law saying blockbusters must be stupid. That was expertly proven by many of the actual blockbusters of this year (The Avengers, The Hunger Games, The Dark Knight Rises). It was proven before by the likes of Jaws and Aliens.
I'd attribute the failure of Battleship and the other movies noted above to a simple fact: That audiences were tired of the mentality that produced them. That mentality being that the audience doesn't count, only the numbers do.
Of course I could be wrong and come next summer I (and the others who have speculated as such) could be eating my words when Pirates 5 and Transformers 4 does bonanza business. But i hold out hope that people have finally gotten tired of movies that are less movies than cheap amusement park rides.

 Re: BATTLESHIP
Battleship made over 300 million worldwide, it just wasn't all that succesful domestically, I certainly wouldn't use the term failure necessarily. Failure is when a film can't even break even at the box-office, like in the case of "The Alamo" or "Alexander"

 Re: BATTLESHIP
This piece of shit probably cost close to $300 mill when factoring in everything (budget, marketing, etc).
