Ciaran hinds did appear in the last harry potter film as dumbledore's brother , though he was unrecognizable underneath layers of make-up.

Was just gonna say that, but the above poster beat me to it Hinds was Dumbledore's brother.

Good review, though. my crowd seemed into it, as well. Lots of screaming girls, haha.

It's kind of amusing to read about Dan Radcliffe being "too young" for a part, after near half-a-decade of jokes about the Harry Potter cast being "too old."

I'm not a huge fan of "slasher" horror movies but I do enjoy "thriller" horror movies and this is one of the best I can remember for a while. The director (and Radcliffe) do an AMAZING job racheting up the tension while he is in the house. It really is a palpable sense of dread. Really well-done and highly recommended.

You know how sometimes in a suspense movie they'll throw something at you with a loud noise or scream and you jump out of your seat? And how, when they do it for the fifth time you get really, really annoyed? And how when they're about to do it for the tenth time, you know it's coming and you're swearing at the picture?

Well if the sound effects man for The Woman in Black is found dead with a microphone down his throat, you know who to blame.

Too bad, because the movie is often deliciously creepy and would have turned the screws even tighter with a bit more restraint. I'd say the chance of anyone selling this haunted house is about 0%.

PS: This is a film that cries out to be done in black and white.

I saw the stage adaptation of this story in London a few years ago. It was amazing, and I'm curious to see how this movie compares.

Finally got to see this movie a couple of days ago, and yeah, it was great. Radcliffe gave a good (but not great) performance, but the film itself was creepy as hell and full of atmosphere. Despite the abundance of "boo!" moments, they never felt predictable, which means my girlfriend and me jumped quite a lot of times while watching the film. Definitely recommendable - the most effective old-school horror movie I've seen in some time.
