Yeah, we don't really need another version of Snow White(for the record though, I don't think the original has aged as well as most Disney films) the previous re-imagining of the tale- Sydney White was pretty good on it's own merits, this just looks like another generic fantasy like Ella Enchanted. Then there's also that "Snow White And The Huntsmen" film with Vanessa Hudgens coming out next year, which dosen't look terribly impressive either.

You meant the one with Kristen Stewart right? I know you did. Oh and for the record, it comes out this year, in June.

"Its fantasy/adventure sequences, which feature sword fights and a dragon-like monster, are pedestrian and not the least bit engaging. Its romantic elements are stilted and unconvincing. Any drama is d.o.a. And the comedy is sporadic and often juvenile."

Kind of like the "Star Wars" prequels. :P

My bad  Either way, that film looks barely any better then Twilight, which makes Stewart starring in it all the more surprising.

i thought Tarsem was directing Snow White and the Huntsmen. Who's directing that movie then?

Rupert Sands, who has no previous directing experience(or any other kind of film related experience for that matter) Sending a first-time director to helm an epic movie is rarely a good idea.

How's that? Kristin Stewart is among the worst high-profile actresses working today. This movie, which will afford her more opportunities to "uh" and "um" and "uhhh" and gnaw on her lower lip, is just about the level she is capable of acting.

I disagree, like James said, the Twilight films are not a good representation of her acting skills, (Stewart actually HATES Stephanie Meyer and thinks she's insane, so i'd be surprised if she put any effort into acting in those films) she was fantastic in The Runaways.

2.5 stars is at least 1 star more than I was expecting. This movie looks awful.

For the record, I think the Kristin Stewart one looks FANTASTIC! It looks really epic and awesome and both Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth look badass in the movie!

She probably shouldn't be admired for putting zero effort into a performance and publicly denouncing the very person that is responsible for her paychecks. That doesn't give her any credibility.

I haven't seen The Runaways and probably won't. I have seen Adventureland and can only speculate that that film, too, is not a good representation of her acting skills. Perhaps it's because she hates writer Greg Mottola and thinks he's insane.

Well I admire her for that because I fucking hate Twilight with a passion, if she actually did put effort into those films, it wouldn't have mattered anyways, as Bella is such a thin and poorly written character that's it's impossible to really care about her, even the most talented thespians couldn't possibly make those films watchable.

As for Adventureland she was OK in that film, but I really think you should give the Runaways a chance.

Stewart was good in Panic Room, Into the Wild, Welcome to the Rileys.

You say "good", I'd say "acceptable". I didn't walk out of Into the Wild singing her praises over so much else that else that was actually memorable and excellent.

She accepted the role and took the paychecks. She has a responsibility to do the work to the best of her ability and to play the publicity game. So if she said Meyers is "insane" (and I haven't seen an attribution for that), there's a credibility issue.

I still need to see Into the Wild in its entirety. In addition to the other two, I thought she was very good in both The Runaways (as someone else mentioned) and Adventureland (fuck off). I absolutely refuse to see the Twilight's as I do want to drop ten stories in my opinion of her (besides, my friend already took that bullet for me :D). Hopefully this next Snow White adaptation will put her on the right path career wise (not to mention her upcoming project On The Road).

Post Re: MIRROR MIRROR
I found a disconnect between the trailer and the actual movie. Watching the trailer, I was left with the impression that this would be a humorous rather campy take on Snow White. Instead there was relatively little humour, though some, but a lot of fairly stressful (for younger kids) action.

It wasn't that I disliked the movie, I agree with James that it is average to below average. But that I felt a bit 'suckered' by the way they presented it in the trailer. There were a lot of very young kids in the audience and I would be curious as to how it went over with them.

Lots of Snow White this year. With the tv show Once Upon a Time (which I like), Mirror Mirror which I will wait for dvd and watch with the kids, and Snow White and the Huntsmen which I am as yet undecided. I will probably wait and read James' review, because although I sometimes like movies he does not I can usually tell by his review whether I will or not. There was a made for tv movie of Snow White, maybe it was on the Sci Fi channel, and I am not talking about the one with the chick from Smallville and I think it is my favorite and these big budget movies probably will not surpass it. We will see.

Good to know. That's the impression I got from the trailer too. I've been considering watching this movie as well since it looked like light fun.

I agree that when an actor signs on to a project that they have a responsibility to give it their all performance wise, but I don't think they have any responsibility publicity wise. An actor's job is to act. Nothing more. Just my opinion though.
