 Re: SKYLINE
Well i don't think anybody on here saw this coming, unlike most people I really enjoyed AVP:Requiem, hell it was one of the best times I ever had in a theater, but Skyline sounds rather dissapointing, so i'll be saving my money for Faster Unless my sister wants to go and see it with me next week, i'm probably gonna either wait for a DVD release or watch it online.

 Re: SKYLINE
Loved this part of James' review:
"Acting? If I didn't know better, I'd think these were porn actors moonlighting with their clothes on. They certainly deliver dialogue that way."

 Re: SKYLINE
Wow, I guess I can see why it took so long for James to write the review (apart from little Michael's daily demands). Having to sift through his memories of this movie must have been painful! This might possibly be the biggest surprise of my week (which says something about how shitty my week was)! "Suddenly, I appreciate the technical aptitude of Transformers?" Could you ask for a more damning statement than that? I personally never expected Skyline to be any good (especially after seeing the trailers for the movie, where the wooden quality of the acting was made perfectly clear to me) but borderline unwatchable?

 Re: SKYLINE
I had decided to skip this beast before I saw the directors names on the title (you can hardly call out AVP2 for how bad it was, you could hardly see it to tell what the fuck was happening), the trailers all look abysmal. Definitely skipping this one, might check it out on DVD for the "Can it really be this bad?" curiosity factor that drew me to add The Last Airbender to my Queue, though I doubt it.

 Re: SKYLINE
You know that's one complaint about AVP:R that I never understood-I was able to see what was going on in the film just fine(and i wasn't even wearing my glasses when I saw it), even if it was admittedly a little too dark at times.

 Re: SKYLINE
AVP:R was dark and muddy, all details were lost and you might as well have been watching the outlines of characters running past outlines of buildings.

 Re: SKYLINE
Well it didn't seem that way to me or my friends, so I dunno what's up with that, did you see that film in theaters or on DVD? If it was in a theater I think it might've just been a bad film pfrint or something like that.

 Re: SKYLINE
No, it was bad filmmaking and I saw it on TV. All you saw was silhouettes lighted by grays and blues. Just because you saw stuff doesn't mean you saw anything.

 Re: SKYLINE
As I think more about this review, I am truly shocked that neither Battlefield Earth nor Van Helsing was mentioned since those were the previous low points for James as far as sci-fi/action epics were concerned (that is unless I'm missing something here).

On DVD. Not a bad print, just a bad movie.

I'd like to know the porn actors and films that james uses as his source for this comment

 Re: SKYLINE
I thought there was a really good five minute special effects demo buried in there, another five minutes of ho-hum special effects, and then about eighty minutes of mediocrity. Ultimately, one of these cheesy SyFy channel "made for television" movies would have been more entertaining...

 Re: SKYLINE
This movie is FRONTED by Eric Balfour, or as I told my wife: "That douche Milo from early seasons of 24." That was enough reason for me to blow this one off as crap. If he's the best known actor they could recruit, there's no hope anyone was going to be able to act their way out of a Port-O-John.

 Re: SKYLINE
You'll have to count me in the whole "so bad it's good" crowd. The movie is absolutely atrocious, but I found it hysterical. Me and my friend John were practically in tears from laughing, including the whole cinder block beatdown. I'd probably say that Turk from Scrubs and Batista from Dexter are just as well known, though again, it doesn't show much promise.

 Re: SKYLINE
*/SPOILER*/ It wasn't that bad a movie. Once the alien at the front door of the cinema had removed my brain I had a lot of fun. In fact, it's worth watching the movie simply because it's practically a point-by-point review of "what not to do in a movie". Stupid flashback at the beginning? Check. Boring character non-development? Check. Stupid characters? Check (it takes the half an hour to turn on the news? Really? Wow.) Stupid plan for escape that gets everyone killed? Check Going out into broad daylight where there are aliens who can suck you into the sky... in a convertible? Check Annoying dog gets owner killed? Check Character that forgets to keep self-locking door open? Check Guns can open doors? Check Man is his own worst enemy? Check. This movie is so boring we've fast forwarded it for you? Check Aliens that can't be killed by modern weapons but can be killed by bricks? Check. Humans that gain superpowers from alien exposure? Check Superpowers that are on/off from scene to scene? Check Absolutely pointless invasion? Check (really? you want our brains? why not use our bodies as batteries too?) Unintentional Futurama homage to brains-in-a-jar? Check Wilheim scream? Check - twice - at the same moment (subtle, eh?) Pointless "Noooooooooooooooo!"? Check Unresolved ending - the "we run out of budget so here are some stills" method. Check This film jumped the shark half an hour in, and the shark was watching Independence Day But, you know, if you see it with friends, the post-film chat is worth it
