Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
I've not seen any of the movies in this series, although I'm led to believe that Harold is the same character from American Pie, right? Anyway having seen Ho in 'Star Trek' and even as a guest star on 'House', it's hard to go back to him being anything remotely goofy This was the problem about a decade ago, which is why now it's a necessity rather than a decision. To try and show people what real humour is would be to bankrupt a studio. Shame!

Well everyone has their own individual definition of what "real" humor is, anyways I wasn't that crazy about the Harold And Kumar films myself, so i'm not very likely to see this one theaters.

Tommy Cooper, Bob Monkhouse, Morecambe & Wise, Les Dawson etc Basically where people are being funny, and not just pointing to a dick and loling (Beavis & Butthead gets a pass as it's actually more clever than it appears).

Don't worry Vexer, neither do I and probably neither does any Americans.

I know of Morecambe and Wise only because a performance by The Beatles on their show was included in the Anthology albums.

Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
It seems as if they're trying to milk Harold and Kumar the same way they milked Friday. The original Harold and Kumar was okay. But as far as stoner comedies of that type go, I prefer the original Friday.

Agreed, I thought Kal Penn was funnier in the Van Wilder films myself.

The original Harold and Kumar was a solid stoner comedy that my friends and I used to watch a lot in college. I thought "Guantanamo Bay" was a big disappointment. I'm optimistic about this third film, but part of me wishes they would go back to looking for some tiny hamburgers.

Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
It seems like James hates 3-D so much that he won't give credit to those movies that really do creatively use the 3-D. I thought with the exception of Born to be Wild 3-D, Harold and Kumar might be the best movie of this year to see in 3-D. It uses it very creatively, comedically and has so much fun with it.
I know that usually 3-D is a bullshit money grab, but I do wish critics would emphasize it more when a film like this comes around and really puts a lot of effort into the 3-D, and isn't just using it as a bullshit money grab. Especially to stoners, it's not only used comedically, but at times it's trippy as hell. The weed smoke transitioning into the opening title credits is one of the coolest opening title credits I've seen in a while. So yes, I do think the extra $3 is very worth it for the movie, and no one should be advised to see it in 2d.
As for the movie itself, the first half of the movie was extremely funny (I think the funniest bit was schtick of the two christmas tree salesmen, but on the other hand, I love my ethnic stereotype humor), but the 2nd half did get a little stale, as the waffle-bot and baby getting high gags got really stale and incredibly stupid. NPH was hilarious, and perhaps this movie got the funniest performance out of him out of the 3.
It's not as funny as the first two, but still very enjoyable. Yes, I think it's worth spending $15 on the movie for the funniest use of 3-D.
edit: note, $15 is what it cost me in Canada. I don't know if that's more expensive than other countries.

Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
Did you miss this paragraph: "While it's hard to argue the 3D is essential to the experience, there are times when it adds - rather than detracts - from the proceedings. For the most part, it is subtly used but there are occasions when the old-fashioned, in-your-face approach is employed. This mainly occurs with smoke rings, snowflakes, and a Claymation penis. Whether it's worth the $3 surcharge is another matter, but at least the 3D isn't a source of frustration as is too often the case with this format." That's hardly "not giving credit" to the format. I think the movie will work quite well in 2-D but it's an example of when the surcharge at least isn't a waste of money. Whether an individual wants to see the movie in 3-D is up to them. (Incidentally, it's almost impossible to find in 2-D; Warner Brothers has elected not to ship many 2-D prints.)

Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
I do like the Harold and Kumar series of films mainly because one of the subjects they never tiptoe around are the stereotypes that people paint those of a different ethnicity with. From the trailer, it seems like there are at least some elements of this in there. Still, I'm thinking that I'll wait until it's out on Blu-Ray or DVD before checking it out.

Re: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR 3D CHRISTMAS
Okay fair enough. I just thought the above comment just didn't really stress how good the 3-D is in the movie. If I read your above comment, I'd expect a decent 3-D movie, but what I actually ended up seeing was what I thought was one of the best uses of 3-D of any movie this year (just behind Born to be Wild 3-D, and maybe slightly better than Final Destination 5), and I actually think seeing this in 2-D should be heavily discouraged as the movie has so much fun with 3-D and it would suck to miss out on that. If anything, I just felt like the above comment was an understatement to how good the 3-D was.
