 Re: PRECIOUS
This movie looks like it will be equal parts brutal and uplifting. Who knew that Tyler Perry could actually be capable of rallying behind something truly worthwhile?

 Re: PRECIOUS
Tyler Perry had nothing to do with the movie other than being a fan of it and endorsing it. Same with Oprah Winfrey.

 Re: PRECIOUS
I wish critics would stop using the subtitle as a weak opener. Not bashing James, but come on . . . the movie's just called "Precious." The only reason the subtitle is there is because the film is based on a book there's a tie-in to, and it's a book which has garnered significant acclaim and literary regard. So the film promotes the book and the book is now being used to promote the film. It's not like anyone's going to put "Precious: Based on the Book by . . . " on a marquee. They'll just say "Precious." Sorry, lol . . . I had just seen that same line almost word for word in several other reviews, all of which praised the film but ragged on the subtitle. It reminded me a little of Rolling Stone giving a Stevie Wonder album in the 70s a five star review while ragging in the text on the blind performer's "weak" choice in cover art. As if

 Re: PRECIOUS
What else would you expect from Rolling Stone? That rag is toilet paper under my roof. Precious looks damn good but very depressing. The chances of this film getting anywhere near Scranton is slim to none. I'll have to wait for the dvd unless I find myself in NYC or Philly and find myself content with NYC/Philly ticket prices. Regardless this looks like a great film.

 Re: PRECIOUS
Really? Glossy toilet paper like that would probably create some pretty horrible paper-cuts. Doesn't seem like something I'd wanna wipe with

 Re: PRECIOUS
I'll have to see for myself. For how much acclaim it received from all the film fests, its winning at TIFF and all the glowing reviews, I'm sure it's got to be good.
But, I'm just not really excited to see this movie. The trailer just looks very cliched. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at certain moments like, "I'm not good at anything." "Everyone's good at something" LOOK OF OPTIMISM ON HER FACE!
or "Nobody loves me" "I love you!"
For all the acclaim it got, I'm sure the movie's really good, but that trailer really does it no justice at all.
