"Hello" was used to great effect in The 40-Year Old Virgin as Andy lights some candles, covers photographs, and turns his Star Wars figurines before he prepares to watch some porn.

A bunch of great examples! Can't believe I forgot about "Bohemian Rhapsody". Every time I hear it, I think of that blue Pacer with the flames on the doors. "Any Way You Want It" by Journey was also used to great effect in the Simpsons episode with Rodney Dangerfield.

 Re: Songs in Movies
Lol yeah, in the episode where Rodney discovered he was the son of Mr. Burns...good stuff. I believe they even pointed out "why are we dancing?!" and no one seems to know or care lol. I'm not old enough to have known when that song came out or when Caddyshack came out but after seeing that movie for the first time that song makes me think of it every time. It was a running joke at parties in college that we would put that song somewhere on every "party mix" cd lol.

Ah, yes..."Hip To Be Square." American Psycho has cast Huey Lewis in a whole new light. "Why are we dancing?" Hey, when Journey comes on the radio, what more reason do you need?

 Re: Songs in Movies
I like your style Mr. Wilder. My favorite song slash use of a song in Trainspotting was " Perfect Day" by Lou Reed. Wonderful song that was wonderfully used.

The Marianne Faithfull version of "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan," used in Thelma and Louise as they were fleeing through the desert at night.
When I saw the movie for the first time, I'd managed to avoid spoilers, so I had no idea what the ending was. When that song started playing, it became clear that things weren't going to end well. If you ever find that "Lucy Jordan" is your life's theme, you are screwed.
And I didn't know until just this minute that the song was written by Shel Silverstein.

 Re: Songs in Movies
Not a "song" but the second movement: "Romance" of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" from W.A. Mozart - members of the crew hear it in the Nostromo during a quiet moment in Alien. Now each time I hear it, I think of Alien.

 Re: Songs in Movies
Wasn't Lebowski saying: "Fuck the Eagles!" (of course everyone knows that the original version of "Hotel California" is from this group, sorry to even mention that) somewhere in the movie? You know what: he isn't all that wrong!

 Re: Songs in Movies
Yeah, the level of Eagles hate in the movie and the prominent placement of the Eagles cover on the soundtrack is just one element of the enormous, self-contained memetic swirl that is The Big Lebowski.

 Re: Songs in Movies
Yeah later on in the cab when the cabbie is listening to Peaceful Easy Feelin'. I don't hate The Eagles. But I'd rather listen to Creedence or Tom Petty. (There were also two Creedence songs in the Big Lebowski. The Dude loved Creedence. The Dude had good music taste.)

 Re: Songs in Movies
Yes it did. Bonus points for using the song while giving the film crew their due. I really loved that show of respect. That scene is one of the few sequences, this in all of filmdom, that had me thinking "This film is so fucking ridiculous that I'd be silly to say it's anything less than great."

 Re: Songs in Movies
Absolutely! One of my favourite movie montages there as well. It's stunning. Smog - Vessel In Vein (from Dead Mans Shoes) - amazing song, amazing intro to the film. Works perfectly.
