Re: 35th anniversary of "Apocalypse Now" - August 15th
The best cinematic fever dream/nightmare ever made. If Platoon was a depiction of the war from Oliver Stone's personal viewpoint and The Deer Hunter an equally ambitious way of showing how the war affected a group of friends, Coppola aimed somewhat higher. True to the title, Coppola's film is a depiction of a civilization at war with itself. Many fantastic scenes and some of the best cinematography and sound editing ever done in a film.
Only Werner Herzog. Fitzcarraldo is the only one to come close.
