Ahhh Moodyson. Such a great double act those two films are. Together is pretty solid too, though not *quite* as good, if you haven't seen it, but I really love those two

Those were my first two experiences with Moodysson. I'm hearing nothing but great things about his next film We Are The Best! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R33H0ONZcSY), so I thought it was time to check him out. Together will be next.

Talk about two completely different viewing experiences. What a gut-punch of a film Lilya is. And then Show Me Love is just so joyous. I was reminded of Ebert's reaction to Almost Famous: "Oh, what a lovely film. I was almost hugging myself while I watched it."

Yeah I'm really psyched for We Are the Best after years of nothing but experimental shit from him. And Show Me Love is indeed so joyous. I watched it on my birthday one year and it was such a perfect day for it.

Watching more TV lately (The Fall, Broadchurch, Vikings in addition to Game of Thrones), which is really cutting into the number of films I'm watching. Only managed 2 more than last month (although two films were close to double a typical length).

Joe (2013) 8
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) 6
Non-Stop (2014) 5
Wild Strawberries (1957) 7
3 Days to Kill (2014) 5
Lincoln (2012) 5
RoboCop (2014) 6
Cries and Whispers (1972) 8
The Battery (2012) 7
Anvil: The Story of Anvil (2008) 6
Persona (1966) 8
Wizards (1977) 6
Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) 8
Pompeii (2014) 6

MAY 2014

Yeah, I struck out this month. Literally one of the busiest months I've ever had at work, so whatever free time I had was either spent with the family or catching up with weekly TV shows. Next month will be better.

EDIT: I had forgotten! I did see The Ruins one night on SyFy, but now I wish I hadn't remembered :D

Be sure to note the theme of choice running through the whole movie! I love how Del Toro uses it to illustrate what changes good people from fascists. Not manners (the Captain stands up for a lady when she leaves the table...and is a profoundly evil man) nor innate "goodness" vs. evil, but choice.

It's July 1st in just a few hours time here in New Zealand, so...

June 2014
The Naked Spur (1953) 6
Tracks (2013) 8
13 Sins (2014) 5
Anna (aka Mindscape) (2013) 7
Daylight (2013) 7
Flipped (2010) 5
Veronika Decides to Die (2009) 6
300: Rise of an Empire (2014) 8
I Saw the Devil (aka Akmareul boatda) (2010) 8
Boy Wonder (2010) 7
Afflicted (2013) 7
The Congress (2013) 9
Wolf Creek 2 (2013) 6
Samurai Rebellion (1967) 7
Art School Confidential (2006) 7
Swimming Pool (2003) 7
Princess Mononoke (1997) 8
Escape from Tomorrow (2013) 6
The Motel Life (2012) 9
Born & Raised (2012) 5
The Monuments Men (2014) 5
Forbidden Planet (1956) 6
Vampire Academy (2014) 5
Knights of Badassdom (2013) 2

So that's 24 - definitely a new record for me. Obviously utterly pathetic compared to Peng though :-(.
