Post December 2013: The Theatrical Up-Nutting
Men, many of you proved your courage and your testicular fortitude last month. I was damn proud to serve with every one of you. Damn proud. But the war continues. And there are new challenges up ahead.

Specifically, movies in theaters. There is no month quite like December. We get an embarrassment of theatrical riches. And we need to take full advantage. So my challenge is this:

All of us should see (at least) 6 movies in theaters this month. We should of course continue to watch movies at home, and not neglect those foreign language and B/W movies I stressed last month. But think of the conversations we'll have if we all see Nebraska and Inside Llewyn Davis and even the goddamn middle Hobbit movie. It'll be a blast, I tell you, a blast. So grab those nuts and get out there: go see movies in theaters and then report back here for positive reinforcement and wub. Always the wub.

Who's with me? Who's bloody with me?

Definitely seeing:

Out of the Furnace
Inside Llewyn Davis
American Hustle
Nebraska
Her
Wolf of Wall Street
Lone Survivor

Possibly seeing:

Labor Day
Walter Mitty
Anchorman 2

Never seeing:

The Hobbit: Desecration of Chode

Looks like a stellar month! Getting to 6 should be no problem for any of us fools, especially if you aren't caught up on everything yet.

A more challenging nutting than last, as most Oscar type movies will usually come to theaters here in January (re: after they have enough hype from America behind them). 12 Years A Slave, for one. The subtitler for that hasn't even finished doing subtitles yet, although he's tweeted that it's the most he cried doing his work  .

Though, looking through a brief, unupdated list of December movies here, there are still many choices: Frozen, Koreeda's Like Father, Like Son; Snowpiercer, Hobbit, and Walter Mitty. This week I'm also going to watch an indie that has been generating some impressive attendance for a film that opens in only 5-6 theaters over the country, and never had a serious marketing push except in twitter. It's been compared to as a "Thai Wes Anderson film", so I'm pretty curious.

6 movies in theaters? Now this is a challenge I'll more than able to do although shockingly, last month Thor: The Dark World and Ender's Game were the only movies I saw in theaters. But with so much coming out that looks great, some of it won't come out here until January though, I will easily meet this quota.

I don't believe i've ever seen six movies in theaters in one month, 4 or 5 a month was the most I ever did. Besides there's nothing this month I really have a burning desire to see.

I've seen 10 theater movies within two weeks before. 6 should be doable, though idk if there's that many I want to see.

Six movies in a month is going to cost a pretty penny.

In related news, I am in the market for the services of an experienced sugar mama.

Post Re: December 2013: The Theatrical Up-Nutting
The Oscar months of Dec, Jan, Feb and March are the months I always nut up heavily. I am not gonna make excuses for my prolonged absence, it is safe to say that trying to fix my career has resulted in me seeing as little as 10-12 movies over the past 7 months.

December looks promising. We've got the Chennai International Film Festival incoming. The admission fee is Rs.500 (Less that 10 USD) for any number of films you want see. That's an absolute fricking steal, and one I am not going to pass up.

Here's a small sampling of the films coming to CIFF:

Before Midnight (I cannot wait for this one, even if means taking an off from work.)
Paulo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty (Italy’s official Oscar entry)
Blue Is The Warmest Colour (The controversy reminds me of of Majas Milos’ Klip from last year, only this one actually looks to be good, instead of a softcore porn film.)
François Ozon's Young and Beautiful (Palme d'Or Nominee)
Asghar Farhadi's The Past (Fuck Yeah!)
Zhangke Jia's A Touch of Sin (Best Screenplay winner at Cannes)
Hirokazu Koreeda's Like Father, Like Son (Jury Prize winner and Spielberg just bought the remake rights)
Inside Llewyn Davis
Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt

Theatrically, I'll probably catch The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, plus whatever makes it to these shores, which doesn't seem like much going by recent months.

But I am fully going to re-nut up for the next few months.

This challenge is certainly doable. I'll be making trips to the theater for Nebraska, Inside Llewyn Davis, Out Of The Furnace, American Hustle, and The Wolf Of Wall Street, and I'm sure I'll be seeing the new Hobbit movie at some point (even though I'm not all that interested in it). Plus, I still have to catch up on the new Hunger Games movie and possibly Frozen. I have a feeling I won't be able to see Her until sometime in January though.

It's unfortunate that you have to wait so long for certain films to come around, but it's cool that you get these ones. The former is coming out in the States in January, but the latter still doesn't have a North American release date (and who knows if we'll get to see the proper version).

I believe that I'll be able to attain this month's nuttage goal. Due to my lack of nuttage last month, I'll simultaneously be attempting to attain the B/W and foreign films goal. This will take some serious balls.

Six in a month? That's it? Easy for me. Already did that several times this year including last month and August. A theater near me has $6.00 morning showings, which makes it easier on the wallet. Right now I work four 10-hour days each week, so getting movies in on that three-day weekend is easy.

Already saw NEBRASKA, but I plan to see.....

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS
OUT OF THE FURNACE
THE HOBBIT 2
AMERICAN HUSTLE
HER
SAVING MR BANKS
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET

and maybe....

ANCHORMAN 2
SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY

Been at least 15 years since I've seen 6 movies in the theater in a year, much less a month. I barely made 7 movies (2 more than the 5 I said I would in the thread adding "The Comancheros" and "Frozen") in the any format challenge. Took a day off work today and spent half of it repairing a malfunctioning kitchen faucet. Good luck gentlemen - I wish you success!

I might meet this goal two or three times over. I love Oscar season.
