Much like with the Batman casting news, I recommend patience. We're talking about a movie that hasn't been made yet.

It will be to incorporate parallel universes so we can have cool cameos. Also the original screenplay wouldn't have had enough opportunities for lens flare.

Abrams did apologize for the overuse of flare, so I don't think he's going to be using it again.

This is fantastic news. Kasdan was the guy who made Empire and Raiders shine, so having him on board for Episode 7 is great.

Wait, I thought Kershner was the one who made Empire good?

Kershner and Richard Marquand (official director of ROTJ) were more or less Lucas figureheads, not unlike a director is in the TV world. :|

Anyway, I said this about this subject in the Episode VII thread in ReelThoughts, but I'll post it here as well:

Assuming they're using Lucas' basic storyline for Episodes VII-IX (which his biographer has said on record he considers the best of all 4 trilogies -- yes, there's apparently an Episode X-XII arc as well  ), I don't think it's that big of a deal. I've grown accustomed to the largely functional dialogue of the prequels. In SW movies, the characters are in total service of the story, not vice versa. But I'm sure there will be more colorful characters in this trilogy, as opposed to just the stoic Jedi and guarded politicians that almost entirely made up the prequels.

Yes, but I'm of the belief that the script is equally important. You start with a bad script, you're halfway to making a bad movie. Kasdan's rewrites made Empire a better movie.
