The Collector is pretty out there, surprised with what they got away with, considering the time. haven't seen Friendly Persuasion.

I haven't seen any of those 4 apart from Ben-Hur, but I did allude to Wyler having some sort of record while trying to recommend The Heiress. He was a Hollywood legend at the time but his stock has fallen considerably in light of auteur theory. He probably wasn't as great as his records suggest, but he is somehow overlooked these days. I think I've found something to like in just about every of his movies and hope that a few folks will give him a chance tonight and in the future.

Some of those films, Jezebel, The Best Years of Our Lives, Mrs. Miniver, The Heiress and Roman Holiday, I like quite a bit, and I'll watch Ben-Hur any time it's on, though I prefer the silent version. All of those got lead acting Oscars (and deserved them--well, maybe not Heston), and the first three got supporting Oscars as well. In fact, Harold Russell got two Oscars for The Best Years of Our Lives. They gave him a special one because they thought he wouldn't win the supporting, then won that one, too.

The final scenes of The Heiress are among my favorite of any movie.
