Any fans here of Jurassic Park? Hard to believe it's been 20 years already. The movie still holds up pretty well.

I'm a pretty big fan. In the first chapter of the book I'm writing, I talk about what I liked about Jurassic Park as a five-year-old. I also point out that a bathroom breaks Dr. Malcolm and he's basically useless for the rest of the film.

I've been saying this for ages. Dr. Malcolm, besides being the charismatic, misterious mathematician who comes up with very interesting and insightful lines "nature breaks free!" (when they unexplainably discovered eggs that clearly had been hatched, meaning some females switched gender) and he was even starting hitting on the Laura Dern character, and I thought: "Hmmm, very interesting sub plot".
Suddenly somewhere in the movie Dr. Malcolm (Goldblum) seems to have been written out of the screenplay late in the production.

The ending also seems rushed. Spielberg at the time, reportedly, had his mind on a much more ambitios and serious project - which he already was working on: "Schindler's List".

Still a great move, but to be honest: I'm not drooling all over it.

That's pretty much my take. It's a genuinely fun adventure film, but it blows its load early.

Every time I come back to it I become more convinced that it's one of Spielberg's masterpieces. Just a great adventure movie.

When an Alamo Drafthouse opened in our area this year, they screened Jurassic Park during their soft opening. My wife had never seen it. If she hadn't heard of it before, I'm 100% certain I could have convinced her that it was a new release. (Well, except for the computers.) It has aged tremendously well. It's perfectly paced. And the CGI is done with such care that 20 years later it holds up really well.

One of the biggest taglines from Superman '78 was 'you will believe that a man can fly'. In JP, you will believe dinosaurs are alive. That still holds true.

I've watched segments of this movie with my kids, ages 6 and 8. They are a timid pair who cover their eyes during portions of Enchanted, Lion King and Aladdin, so viewing the whole of JP would not go well. I cannot wait until they are old enough to see it. Viewing it again through their eyes will be almost as wonderful as the first time I saw it myself 20 years ago.

It's a better than average popcorn movie. Not much more though.
