Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
I hear Home Alone is a huge Christmas tradition in Poland. It's their equivalent to It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, etc. Who knew?
I don't have any Christmas-themed movies planned, but I might tune into the Charlie Brown Christmas Special for that sweet Vince Guaraldi score.
And I do have the Star Wars Holiday Special, which I've been meaning to watch. Hell, maybe if I have too much Christmas dinner and need to barf some of it back up...

I bought the Christmas vacation (1989) blu ray a few days ago and of course watched it again. If you want to see/refresh a scene click in my signature

I just asked the Polish programmer sat across from me and he denied all knowledge. Cheers, Ken.

Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
Like many people, I usually take off the week between Christmas and New Year's. My girlfriend and I usually go away with her parents and spend a week of family time together. This year my girlfriend started a new job (and was sick with Lyme Disease for over a month) so she doesn't have the leave to take any time off. Why am I telling you guys this? Because that means I get 5 straight days to myself to watch tons and tons of movies (26th - 30th, she's going to a bridal shower Fri and Sat). I got really excited by the prospect of this, so yesterday I made a list of all the movies I wanted to get watched over the period. Many were my own selections, and many were recommendations from the forum. None of them are necessarily Christmas related, so if NotHugh wanted us to stick to those kinds of movies, well, sorry. Here they are:
Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap Aguirre: The Wrath of God Bernie The Cook, The Theif, His Wife, and Her Lover Kiss of the Spider Woman Melancholia Red River Railroaded The Thing (Carpenter) I Saw the Devil
Hopefully, I get those 10 movies watched over the course of 5 days. These are in addition to seeing stuff like Django Unchained, Jack Reacher, This is 40, and Les Miserables in theaters. I'd also still like to see Life of Pi in 3D before it leaves.
I think it's pretty ambitious for a 5 day period. It feels like my own personal film festival except I get to watch movies mostly from my couch, eat whenever I want, and pet my dog occasionally (no, that isn't a euphemism for wacking it, I enjoy petting my dog). I can also wack it whenever I want.

Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
I might be mixing Poland up with another country of the region. I remind you that I am American and the lines on the map start to get pretty blurry once we're out of our little corner of the world. EDIT: The IMDB trivia page (which, as we know, is the most reliable source for all things geographical and cultural) has this to say: For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I didn't read about this on IMDB before, so there's at least one other poorly remembered source for this floating around out there.

Just my annual late Christmas Eve favorite: Scrooge (1951)

Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
I have a huge stack of DVDs, but don't know what I'll pick until I pick it. In theaters, I'll try to see Django Unchained.

At the movie theater, Les Miserables, Django Unchained and Monsters, Inc. (in 2D), Zero Dark Thirty if it's showing.
At home, Spies (another Lang) and Alistair Sims' Christman Carol.

Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
I'll probably see a bunch of flicks that'll potentially be nominated for Oscars (Flight, Argo, Django Unchained, etc.). It's what I do this time of year. That means I have to see stuff like Snow White and the Huntsmen because it might get a costume nomination. *vomit*

At the moment, it's Horton Hears a Who! Dr. Seuss was like cosmic, man.

Re: What films will you watch over Christmas?
It's a Wonderful Life this year--on Christmas Eve and the big day.
Also, a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie on ABC called Christmas with Holly, which was actually pretty cute and about 100 times better than your average Hallmark Channel Christmas movie.
Haven't quite convinced the wife yet that Die Hard is a Christmas movie (which it is) let alone the greatest Christmas movie (which it certainly is).
