Post Any Early Predictions for 2014 Oscar Contenders?
Lately, out of sheer boredom and an excessive amount of time on my hands, I have been posting far too much on this forum, but I figured that I might as well post a thread on one more topic before giving it a break.

It is definitely a tad bit too early to be talking about this already, but seeing as January is a toxic wasteland at the multiplex, we might as well start fantasizing about the more high-brow movies that await us at the end of the year.

Here are some possible Oscar contenders for next year's ceremony:

42
Ain't Them Bodies Saints
August: Osage County
Beautiful Creatures

Before Midnight
The Bling Ring
Blood Ties
The Butler
Captain Phillips
Carrie
The Counselor
The Dallas Buyers' Club
Decoding Annie Parker
Devil's Knot
Diana
Don Jon's Addiction
Ender's Game
Elysium
The Falling
Foxcatcher
Gambit
Grace of Monaco
Gravity
The Great Gatsby
Her
Imogene
I'm So Excited!
Inside Llewyn Davis
James Gray
Jane Got a Gun
jOBS
Kill Your Darlings
Knight of Cups
Labor Day
Last Vegas
Long Walk to Freedom
A Long Way Down
Malavita
Nebraska
Nightingale
Nina
Odd Thomas
Oldboy
Only God Forgives
Out of the Furnace
Oz: The Great and Powerful
Pacific Rim
The Place Beyond the Pines
The Railway Man
Saving Mr. Banks
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Serena
Side Effects
Snowpiercer
The Spectacular Now
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Stoker
Therese Raquin
Trance
Twelve Years a Slave
Untitled David O. Russell Project
Untitled Woody Allen Project
A Quiet Passion
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Young and Prodigious Spivet
The Zero Theorem

Yes, I realize that I have no life. In other news, I cannot think of a stronger Oscar lineup since 2007. The last five years have run the full spectrum from terrible to fine. In fact, here is what I thought of each year, as expressed by emoticons:

2008: :(
2009: :x
2010:
2011: :|
2012: :|

This year, which I was originally skeptical of, just might end up being the best year for movies since '07. Fingers crossed.

Award for Best Movie Ever: Man of Steel

Don't everyone dash my hopes at once.

Hopefully, Nolan had Snyder dropped off in the Mexican desert while taking over control of the project himself.

Nolan needs a director with visual ideas to compensate for his own lack of them.

Snyder needs a producer with a brain to compensate for his lack of one.

I'm really, REALLY hoping that it works out that way, and the shots in the trailers have given me a measure of optimism. It looks like nothing either one of them has ever done.

It's very possible, definitely one of the more intriguing films this year.

The Place Beyond the Pines. Far and away my #1 for 2k13. Foxcatcher is very high for me, and of course I'll be there for the Coens and Refn on opening day. And I will always support anything Idris Elba does. I'm just glad I get to see stuff like Pacific Rim in stead of thrillers starring Beyonce.

Well, the Coens. I'm curious to see how Twelve Years a Slave gets marketed.

My prediction is none of these will win Best Picture.

A fellow Refn fan. Nice. I see Pines at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and it is currently my favorite film of 2013, although I am looking forward to seeing it again once it gets an American release.

Drive was my second favorite film of 2011, right after A Separation. So underrated.

Well, there goes an hour of my life that I'll never get back. I cannot think of any other film that stands a chance of winning Best Picture.

Forgot to include Ender's Game. Does it have a chance?

Obviously there will be the smaller films that aren't on anybody's radar/nobody has heard of yet that will sneak in, but these are my more obvious picks:

The Great Gatsby
Captain Phillips
Monuments Men
Saving Mr. Banks
The Wolf of Wall Street
Twelve Years a Slave
The Butler
Foxcatcher
Diana
Osage County
Nymphomaniac
Dallas Buyers Club
Skinny and Cat
Inside Llewyn Davis
The Counselor
Gravity

Nymphomaniac doesn't have a set release date yet, and I made a mistake including The Monuments Men, seeing as it is a 2014 film. Skinny and Cat is also a 2014 release.

Never mind. I didn't include Monuments Men.

Here is a useful resource: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/? ... 013&p=.htm.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that Tyler Perry will finally get that Oscar nomination he's been working towards next year. ;)

I'm really excited for Monuments Men regardless of it's ultimate Oscar potential.

Odd Thomas could also be a contender.
