 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
I usually end up ditching this because my movie-watching habits become shitty during the theme park/baseball season, but I'll take another stab at this topic.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
Doesn't seem like it to you guys, but for me, it was an excellent month, both in terms of quantity and quality. Tops for me was Looper, Moonrise, and Bernie. First Blood and Robocop I had not seen since I was real young. Turns out my memory of them was a mix of the first and it's sequel. Really awesome to see them play out again. February1. Ruby Sparks 2. Compliance 3. The Grey 4.

One of my personal favorites. An incredibly beautiful film -- I even have an original poster framed on my wall.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
That said, Neil Young Journeys was a letdown that was borderline unpleasant to look at during some parts. I still wish whoever has the rights would get off their ass and release Trunk Show already.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
It is very good; Jonathan Demme sure knows how to shoot a quality concert film. I'm a big Neil Young fan, but more so his wilder, grungier side than his "folkier" persona. Heart of Gold is a better film than Year of the Horse though. I haven't seen Journeys yet.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
Hey Ken, is there any rhyme or reason as to why you saw Identity Thief? I saw you disliked it in the movie's thread, which isn't a surprise. Was this an attempt to get some slam-piece action? Or did your bros drag you there (which, I guess could also be an attempt to get some slam piece action)?
Also, that's the last time I use the terms "slam-piece" and "bros" in my posts. I can't even use them sarcastically without feeling like an idiot.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
I was wondering that as well. I thought he said in another thread he only gets to the movie theater 3-4 times a year, so I assumed he was pretty picky on what he saw(unless he saw this through some other means) Attempted slam piece seems likely.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
Sometimes, in the interests of keeping your horizons broad and your assumptions carefully tempered, you need to pluck a random title out of a hat and take the plunge. In this case, I was not rewarded by luck of the draw.
And more accurately, I'd say I get out to see new releases theatrically maybe a dozen times per year, and older releases about the same number.
As for the casual sex, I play the electric guitar. Bad movies are a hoop I've never found myself having to jump through.

February 2013
Village of the Damned (1960) (Rilla) - 7/10 Here comes the Boom (2012) (Coraci) - 2/12 Looper (2012) (Johnson) - 7/10 Savages (2012) (Stone) - 3/10 Ladri di Biciclette/ Bicycle Thieves (1948) (De Sica) - 9/10 Taken 2 (2012) (Megaton) - 5/10 Shame (2011) (McQueen) - 8/10 Across 110th Street (1972) (Shear) - 7/10
Eight movies in a month is poor, but at least there were a few good to excellent ones.

February turned out to be a decent month (18 films) owing to the pressure of having to see every goddamn 2012 film for the Pedros. (* indicates repeat viewing)

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
Love the fact you didn't completely overrate Sorcerer as its a pale imitation of Cloutzot's magnum opus and fails to stand on its own. Also love the Ghibli binge sesh you got yourself into; wonderful films, although I still haven't seen Pom Poko.

Hm... kind of a slow month for me, notwithstanding the Sam Raimi bender I went on.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2013
Dislike the fact that you both completely underrated Sorcerer as it's a lesser movie than Wages of Fear but does some terrific things and is definitely a worthy film in its own right
