Update as well

1: The Avengers
2: Bernie
3: Dark Knight Rises
4: Hunger Games
5: Bully

Ted goes down to honorable mention and will most likely be there at years end. I liked the much maligned Savages. But not a top five or even top ten pick.

Top 5 Movies of 2012 so far would be

1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. Miss Bala
3.The Dark Knight Rises
4. Seeking a Friend For The End of the World
5. The Avengers

I am looking forward to
The Master, Argo, Skyfall, Lincoln (only because of Daniel Day Lewis), Django Unchained

Btw I saw the worst movie of 2012 I'm sure:

Premium Rush

Right, so top 5 of 2012:
1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Avengers
3. The Dictator
4. ...
5. ...

Really, I can't bring myself to put something as mediocre as The Hunger Games or Chronicle on the list. Let's hope I find some better movies during the remainder of the year. Hopefully a few of my 5 to see will be really good (in order of release date):

The Master, Looper, The Hobbit, Amour, Django Unchained.

I watched this a while back based on your recommendation and I'll join you in singing its praises. I think a lot of the forumites would enjoy it. It's funny, sweet, and smart.

Hey, cool! I figured it would go unseen until it hit basic cable. The only thing I didn't like about it was that nervous tic pan/zoom thing the Brothers Duplass always use. Jason Segel was driven, the end was nice, Judy Greer and Anne Heche are basically the same person... I don't know if it will make this years top of the pops but I wouldn't be sorry to see it stick around.

I also saw this a while ago based on the same recommendation. After the terrible experience of Cyrus I had more or less written off the Duplass Bros. but this was indeed surprisingly sweet. Perhaps they aren't horrible writers after all (or maybe it just helps that Jason Segel is a much better actor than Jonah Hill), just horrible directors. I felt like I was watching an episode of The Office, not a feature film.

You liked that crappy Batman movie? Come on, Ed! Interesting that you put The Dictator up there too. I thought it looked like a cartoon version of Borat. Or, more like the Ali G movie than Borat or Bruno. I guess I'll have to check it out at some point.

I still haven't seen Cyrus (my girlfriend liked it, though), but I did watch their first movie, The Puffy Chair, the other day. It's an incredibly low budget production (Wiki says the budget was $15,000), but you can promise in the writing. Overall, it's a slightly above average film, but there are moments of genuine insight, so I appreciated the film.

I don't know that I'd call them horrible directors, but writing is definitely their strength. At this point they have a solid grasp of how to combine character and idea, which is one of the best qualities a writer in any medium can have. They're an interesting pair and I think they very well could have a great movie in them.

While your statement here is 100% factual, when you consider that I responded to someone who ranked the movie as the best he's seen all year, I don't really see the purpose in pointing your undoubtedly correct point out.

I had cheesy potato gnocchi for dinner last night.

I love all seven members of this forum for different reasons but I'll always love Pete the most because the guy knows potato pasta + cheesy makes for good mealing.

Yes!

And it certainly does. This particular dish also had artichokes in it, which was an added bonus.

Speaking of artichokes, hot spinach and artichoke dip. I don't even have to make that a grammatically correct sentence because the "is fucking awesome" is implied by the very yumminess the word combination brings to mind. And with pita bread? This keyboard better not be ovulating, is what I'm saying.

This last part of your post took it into the realm of "T.M.I.". Just saying.

As for the thread topic, here's how I rate the films of this year that I've seen so far:

Dark Knight Rises
The Avengers
Chronicle
Prometheus

Films that I want to see if only theaters in my area would run them instead of being asslickers to the big studios include:

God Bless America
Compliance

Films that I will be checking out later this year (which I'm also sure will be playing in local theaters here):

Dredd
Skyfall
Django Unchained

I may also check out the first part of The Hobbit, but the move to split it into 3 parts has been a turn-off for me. We'll see on that one.

Alright, I'll update this thing:

1. The Master
2. Seven Psychopaths
3. Looper
4. Moonrise Kingdom
5. The Grey

I'm struggling to find 5 movies I'm legitimately excited to see for the rest of the year, but here goes:

1. Django Unchained
2. Amour
3. Skyfall (this is where my excitement drops considerably)
4. Killing Them Softly
5. Les Miserables

I'll update my lists as well:

1.) We Need To Talk About Kevin
(I'm gonna count this as a 2012 film, as it's widest release came at the start of this year.)
2.) Dark Knight Rises
3.) Looper
4.) Dredd 3D
5.) The Avengers

The films that I would like to check out later in the year:

Compliance
God Bless America
Sinister
Skyfall
Django Unchained

1) Argo
2) Looper
3) ParaNorman (yes, I'm serious)
4) Beasts of the Southern Wild
5) The Avengers

Followed by The Secret World of Arietty, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, The Hunger Games and maybe Cowgirls and Angels.

I'm not counting A Separation as a 2012 film; otherwise it would be #1 by a long shot.
