Re: 35th anniversary of "Star Wars" - May 25th
I came to it late. I was 16 when during the initial run and never joined the excitement or cared about seeing it. Think I finally saw it about a decade later on TV and thought it was pretty good. Move ahead to 2 years ago. My son (then 6 years old) started reading Star Wars related books in his school library and became interested. We watched all 6 in the order they were originally released in a period of about 3 weeks and I became a big fan. There were some stretches in Attack of the Clones
that bored me, but overall, I really enjoyed the experience. I would actually put 3 of the episodes (2 prequals
) ahead of "A New Hope". However, it is number 1 in level of importance.
Can't help but wonder what it was like in the atmosphere of the original release, I wasn't there. As it is, the only nostalgic feeling this creates within me is a hightened awareness that my life is now 35 years shorter than it was then.
