From what I understand it's only being released in NY and LA to be eligible for the Oscars and won't go wider until early January.

I believe Pete is correct. I checked DC and San Francisco and saw nothing

3. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (yes, I just watched this recently, but nothing else on TV was interesting)
4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
5. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
6. Trekkies
7. Police Story
8. This Film Is Not Yet Rated

Jumping in at the end, but here goes nothing...

November 2012

11/4 - Sound of My Voice = B+
11/4 - Chronicle = B-
11/11 - Prometheus = B
11/11 - The Raid: Redemption = B

12/27 - Ants! = C-
12/27 - The Ring (1927) = B-
12/29 - The Dark Knight Rises = B
12/30 - Chained = A-

I just went back two months. There are also a lot of rewatches lost in the shuffle, cause I usually don't write down reviews/grades for rewatches.

December 2012

Match Point (2005) (Allen) - 8/10*

Star Trek (2009) (Abrams) - 8/10*
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) (Nolan) - 6/10*
The Chef/ Comme un Chef (2012) (Cohen) - 5/10
The Lost World (1925) (Hoyt) - 3/10
The Raid: Redemption/ Serbuan Maut (2011) (Evans) - 6/10

We need to talk about Kevin (2011) (Ramsay) - 8/10

Prometheus (2012) (R. Scott) - 7/10
Safe (2012) (Yakin) - 4/10

Ted (2012) (MacFarlane) - 7/10
The Last Laugh/ Der letzte Mann (1924) (Murnau) - 8/10
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) (Jackson) - 7/10
The Avengers (2012) (Whedon) - 8/10*

* = repeat viewing
i = cinematic viewing

So 2012 closes with a strong movie watching month, although there were more rewatches than usual. I was glad to catch "The Hobbit #1" in a theatre, although this most anticipated movie of the year was a bit of a disappointment. SUbsequent viewings might change my opinion, though, because I really disliked the 3D experience.

Best movie of the month: We need to talk about Kevin. Two silents (Lang's "Die Nibelungen: Siegfried" and Murnau's "Der letzte Mann") came close, but silent movies don't really compare to modern ones in my opinion.

Post Re: Viewing Journal -- 2012
My 2012 in movies:

I watched 150 movies this year, including 15 movies I had seen before. My best months were April, August and September, incidentally the months when I managed to take some days off work. I saw 30 movies with a 2012 U.S. release date, but I only managed four trips to the cinema (Intouchables - 6/10, The Dark Knight Rises - 6/10, Skyfall - 8/10, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 7/10), which is weak but better than the single movie I watched theatrically in 2011.

The best movies I saw in 2012 (not limited to 2012 releases) for the first time were

The Virgin Spring,
Pickpocket,
8 1/2 and
The Red Shoes,

all of which I rated 9/10. Honorable mentions to the 8/10-rated Contagion, The Skin I live in, Thief (1981), Police Story 3: Supercop, One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Eyes without a Face, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Melancholia, Martin, Dersu Uzala, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Reds, A Separation, La Strada, The Avengers (2012), The Artist, Persona, Skyfall, Die Nibelungen: Siegfried, We need to talk about Kevin and Der letzte Mann.

The worst movies I saw in 2012 (including but not limited to 2012 releases) for the first and, hopefully, last time were:

Missing in Action (a Chuck Norris vehicle) and
The Back-Up Plan (a Jennifer Lopez vehicle),

which both share the dishonour of a 1/10 rating and being even worse than the 2/10-rated Game of Death, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaur, Grimm's Snow White, Battleship and Zweiohrküken.

Thanks to all of you for your lists and see you at the end of January 2013 in the appropriate thread.

Fair enough, unless you think that Missing in Action or The Back-Up Plan are actually unrecognised masterpieces ;)

No not so much. I've loved at least one movie from each of the above directors, just not those ones

I don't like Pickpocket, but A Man Escaped is terrific.

8 1/2 does nothing for me, but La Dolce Vita is fantastic.

The Virgin Spring was decent, but I prefer Bergman in realistic mode. Of those, Scenes from a Marriage is best.

And while the Red Shoes has its moments, when it comes to The Archers I will take the sublime Matter of Life and Death

While I am sad to see your distaste for Kill Bill, I'm glad you dug Strange Circus. Did you post on it in the Last Movie thread because I'm not sure I saw it.
