 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2012
Alright, let's do it... now hopefully I can keep up with this.
JANUARY
Shark Night (David R. Ellis, 2011) * Killer Elite (Gary McKendry, 2011) *1/2 Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (Eli Craig, 2010) *** Clerks II (Kevin Smith, 2006) ***1/2 Real Steel (Shawn Levy, 2011) *** Red Hill (Patrick Hughes, 2010) ** Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (Kevin Smith, 2001) **1/2 The Men Who Stare at Goats (Grant Heslov, 2009) **1/2 Night of the Creeps (Fred Dekker, 1986) *** Survival of the Dead (George A. Romero, 2009) * Puss in Boots (Chris Miller, 2011) **1/2 The Apple (Menahem Golan, 1980) Do I really need to give this a rating? The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang (Tim Skousen, 2006) ** Immortals (Tarsem Singh, 2011) *** The Big Year (David Frankel, 2011) **1/2 Seeking Justice (Roger Donaldson, 2011) * The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher, 2011) **1/2
The only reason I don't give Tucker and Dale a higher rating is because I watched the work-in-progress print with overdubbed dialogue and missing effects shots. That took me out of the movie every now and then. But as soon as I watch the completed version, that rating will go up because I loved it!
Also, screw George A. Romero. Survival was such shit, I'm convinced the man has nothing more to offer.

January
1/1/2012: High Fidelity: 10/10.
And away we go! I thought I'd start off the year with one of my all-time, top 5 favorite movies. I didn't watch it in 2011, and now I'm thinking that's a big reason why it was such a terrible year.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2012
Yes. For the most part, I think the filmmakers did a good job of translating the material from England to America. There's only one scene in the film that bugs me, where John Cusack and Jack Black are talking about Evil Dead II, and Jack Black mentions that it has a kickass soundtrack, which doesn't make any sense. In the book, the film they're talking about is Reservoir Dogs, which is much more appropriate; not sure why they decided to change it for the film. Anyway, I think both the book and the film are terrific.

 Re: Viewing Journal -- 2012
Yeah it was generally a good version. I was suspicious at first however. Hornby was one of my favourite authors growing up. My favourite book of his was "Fever Pitch" which I can't recommend highly enough. The subject matter (soccer) might be a bit obscure for you but it's a great coming of age story told through the prism of sports fandom. There have been a couple of adapted film versions, neither of which I have seen though.

And that's January given that there definitely won't be any movie viewings for the next three nights. Noriko's Dinner Table was the best though I reconsidered the movie's excellence in the cold light of a full night's sleep. Not perfect. Tinker Tailor, too, was very good and deserves much of the praise it's been receiving. Roadracers and My Favorite Year were both good fun, The Artist was nice, Ilsa got a rewatch for thread-retiring purposes, so on. I saw nothing that offended me and I saw nothing that deserves a place in my DVD collection. Super, which received some good buzz on the forum, turned out to be nothing special. And now on to February.

Interesting: you dislike Source Code, which almost everyone here likes/liked. And wow I had no idea Due Date was that bad
